Real Catholic TV - “Why are lay Catholics having to explain the faith, while so many bishops really aren’t?”

If you do not have an active Diocese, that prominently promotes the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” first printed in US in March 2000, or
strays from this authenic teaching tool,
please email the link above to your Diocese Bishop.

We need our Bishops to be true shepherds of souls for Christ (- of all of our souls), as the Apostles were.
In Charity, we may need to help Bishops see what has been happening in their own Diocese.

We do not need our Bishops to be fundraisers, politicians or office administrators.

How many years ago, was the last time your Bishop came to your Parish to preach to the Faithful ?
The Apostles set the example.
We desperately need our Church Leaders in the US.

You can go ahead and send emails, but just be aware they will more than likely be deleted without anyone having watched the YouTube video. If you send a personal letter, it will be read by someone (even if not passed on to the bishop). If you send an email saying “Click on this link!”, it will be deleted as spam.

My bishop preaches at every parish in the diocese usually at least once a year. 🤷 But he can do that in a small diocese. In a large archdiocese with hundreds of parishes and millions of Catholics, that’s just not feasible.

I’m sure there are some bishops who get bogged down with the administrative stuff, but I think part of the problem is also that few people are listening. Headlines like “Bishop Teaches Faithful about the Sacraments” don’t sell.

Good for your Bishop in visitng Parishes, sounds like he is on the right track !
He may have been one of the 80 out of 300 US Bishops who wrote to Notre Dame opposing Obama being honored.

Does he also prominently promote the CCC, 2nd Ed, which is the authentic teaching tool of the Church? - Since he certainly can not be everywhere at all times ?

If their pictures were not in Churches or web sites, most Catholics would not know who their Bishops were if they passed them on the streets.

Yes, all Bishops can go to each Parish. Large Diocese with more Parishes would simply mean that the Bishop would only be able to visit less often - maybe once every two or three years. (Allowing for 2 weeks of Vacation, and two weeks of travel, the are still over 40 Sundays each year.)
Go to your own Catholic Diocese web site, and you will see how many Parishes are in your Diocese. They should all be listed. Everyone can do their own math.
Los Angeles is the largest in the US (probably too big).

I can promise you that when my name comes in on an email to my Bishop, he gets it from his Assistant. If it requires a response (some don’t), I get one from him.
In the case of 7 different diocese, I have gotten emails or phone calls from their Staff. In 3 other cases, I have gotten response directly from the Bishop.

If a letter or personal phone call is the best way to reach your own Bishop,
and if you have constructive suggestions on how to improve getting authentic Catholic teachings propagated to cradle and fallen away Catholics, by all means - contact your Priest and Bishop. Hopefully they will appreciate your effort, and follow through on all appropriate suggestions. No more couch potatoes.

Really? I’m impressed. If you put in the effort such that they are personally familiar with you, then sending an email is a different matter. I thought you were advocating “drive-by” mass emails. My mistake. :o

I certainly agree that it’s important for bishops to be “out there”. I love that my bishop does that. I do understand that there are other responsibilities he has that consume much time. Just look at them all in Canon Law! 🙂

Some dioceses have more than 200 parishes. At 40 visits a year, that would put them on the five year plan, I suppose. Not even the Pope makes that many visitations. 😉

When you send emails to your own Bishop, be sure to put your full address on the bottom, and the name of the Parish that you belong to.
I also include my phone number.
If you are in his Diocese, the Bishop or his staff should not ignore you as spam.

Bishops responsiblities are defined in the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” printed in March 2000.
See “the teaching office” - 888.
"Bishops, with priests as co-workers, have as ***their first task ***“to preach the Gospel of God to all men,” in keeping with the Lord’s command.415 They are “heralds of faith, who draw new disciples to Christ; they are authentic teachers” of the apostolic faith "endowed with the authority of Christ."416
(Bolding, italics and underlining are mine.)

Never discourage the Faithful from contacting their Bishop, even if unintentionally. We need our Bishops to teach like the Apostles, and put forth the authoritative teaching of the Faith when they can not be present.

As I have stated, a Bishop can not be everywhere at all times.
Each person has to ask himself if his Bishop prominently promotes the CCC, 2nd Ed for his Faithful. It is the authentic teaching tool of Faith and Morals of our Church.
Any literate person over age 16 should have no problem with it.
If it’s not happening your Diocese, you must contact your Bishop.

Those of you with Bishops and Priests who promenently promote the CCC, 2nd Ed, and have your Bishop visit your Parish in turn, should be thankful. It’s not the norm.
