Wear a shirt with this text?

Would it be morally wrong to wear a shirt that says about a certain artist: Gods Gift To Music? Provided that this artist is not known for sinful behaviour of course, and his quality of music is pretty high.

Mick Mars, is Gods gift to the guitar world…Id where his shirts. 😃 Hes to old and crippled to do any sinful behavior…

I don’t see any problem with it. God gives us our gifts, and He gave this musician his talent…so why not wear it? 😛

He suffers from a degenerative spinal disease. He can hardly walk let alone chase groupies!!!😃 Even in his younger days, he stayed away from that. Hes a great guy. And there is nothing wrong with his fingers. 🙂

i think that being a musician has much more to do with practice and repetition than some god given gift. i don’t think some people are born being able to play music. some people are born differently, and it might affect their style or what kind of instruments that people choose to play, or their vocal range. but the only way to be good at music is to practice around 10 hours a week.

the good news is, anyone that wants to can learn to play guitar, and from there learn anything else. but i always find it demeaning to hear from non-musicians how something i can do is the result of some random gene being clicked on or off, or a gift from god, or that it somehow comes easily to me. because it ignores the thousands of hours i have spent practicing. the reason that i can play music is because i had the discipline to get better when at first it was a cacophony.

so as to the OP, unless the musicians have approved the message you are suggesting for the t-shirt, either through their public statements or whatever, i wouldn’t do it. and the other thing to think about is that if you are making your own t-shirts, then you are stealing the musicians’ likenesses. but if you buy one of the bands licensed t-shirts, and then stencil on “Gods Gift to Music” then it’s your shirt so you can do what you want with it.

Yes muscle memory. I still cannot seem to get faster though. I stick to rythm guitar. I have some mean chord progressions.! 😛

I say the t-shirt is okay, as long as the t-shirt isn’t worn by the musician himself–that would just be arrogant.

We live in a prideful world where God’s hand isn’t acknowledged nearly often enough, what could be wrong with appreciating God’s hand in helping a musician to excel in his art? (Provided his music is pure and of God.)

Assuming no copyright or trademark issues, IMHO, regardless of how much of our musical ability is “natural” talent versus pure, hard work, it is a God-given gift.

For the one who isn’t born a prodigy but gets there through hard work, it is the grace or gift of perseverance, the grace or gift of the ability to be disciplined and focused, the gift of a body and brain healthy enough to be simply capable of moving or coordinating movements in the way the instrument requires.

Every breath we inhale, every step we take, all of our successes, each new day we’re given, are gifts from God that He has allowed. He provides us with the grace, opportunity, resources, good desires, and talent.

God is good!!

so does tommy iommi get his talents from satan?

it’s a stupid question, but that guy can totally thrash, and he was in black sabbath. so either he practiced 'til his fingers bled, or he made a deal with the devil, or god gave him an amazing talent to make music that is anti-christian.

i’m oversimplifying, because black sabbath wasn’t just an anti-christian band. they dealt with a lot of interesting ideas, like pacifism (war pigs), technology (iron man), and love (paranoid?).

anyway, christian rock doesn’t make any sense, because rock and roll is the devil’s music. and christian rock is only ever about 1 thing, so it gets really boring really fast. i’m not saying there aren’t any good songs about jesus, there are, but if that’s every song you write then it gets old.

@benidict: if all you practice is rhythm guitar, then that’s what you’ll get good at. it’s not a bad place to be, mind you, especially if you can sing. but if you want to learn to play fast, you need to try and learn some metal songs. tapping isn’t that hard, and solos are just built around chords anyway, so you can probably do it with a little practice.

what happens in music is you get comfortable, and then the breadth of your talent tends to stagnate. try learning something new. play it slowly until you get it, and then slowly speed it up. try dick dale for starters; it’s timeless, and the crowd will lose it.

Haha well when I hear the phrase “God’s gift to…” in such a context I would definately assume it’s meant to be sarcastic.

Actually, War Pigs and Neon Knights have a veiled Christian message. Ronnie James Dio was a Baptized Catholic, though not practicing. He was a wonderful human being though. Tony, Was never a Satanist. Black Sabbath was a hippie band. Ozzy himself, is a baptized Anglican. LOL! Thanks for the advice. I play alot of AC/DC Its more chord based and really gets the blood pumping. 😃 I can also play alot of Crue and Iron Maiden, but I cant get the solos down. :mad:
