A previous post asked what you wore around your neck. But do you wear it inside or outside your shirt? Is it being showy or showing off your faith?

if i wear, i wear it on the inside… i’ve always heard it’s what’s inside that counts… 👍

How about you??

Inside, so I’m always reminded. My brain is like swiss cheese at times. 😃

I wear it inside 'cause, if I put my foot in my mouth, as I’m prone to from time to time, I don’t want anyone to think all Catholics are big mouths. :o I’m just not saintly enough to go being an example of the faith. Folks don’t need any more fodder for their anti-Catholic tendencies…

My miraculous medal, outside. My scapular, inside. Why? I’m always grabbing my medal and praying the prayer. The scapular, because it looks strange worn on the outside. Sometimes people mistake it for a shirt tag.

Scapular inside, crucifix with corpus and miraculous medal outside. Sign of faith. My poor son at swimming practice received the name “tea bag boy” because his scapular was always laying on his back like a tea bag in the water. He was a great witness though “no fear”.

Scapular - completely inside, next to the skin. The itch reminds me to pray.

Medals - between my tee-shirt and my outer shirt (or inside my tee if I’m not wearing an outer.

I do, however, also wear a small Miraculous Medal lapel pin whenever I’m wearing a shirt with a collar.

not alone white dove… 👍

Scapular on the inside, Benedictine medal crucifix on the outside.

I have three medals…Our Lady of Lourdes, Fatima, and my patron St Monica. I wear them on the outside and I love it when people ask me what’s on them! Just another way to profess my faith!

I wear a crucifix on the outside…having it on the outside makes me more careful about how Christ-like I am acting, knowing others can look at me and see that I am Catholic. Plus, I want people to know I am Catholic…I’m proud of it! 😃

Miraculous Medal Inside, Scapular Inside, Crucifix Inside

All nearer my heart 👍

I wear my scapular inside. I have a moderately sized gold crucifix that was given to me by my wife which I consider both a beautiful piece of jewelery and a form of witness.

I have often been tempted to wear one of those large St. Benedict crucifixes as a form of witness but have refrained up to now because I don’t think my motivation is all that pure at this time, and that I’m not doing it out of showiness or triumphalism, or for the sole purpose of starting a debate. It would be a great catalyst for an apologetics conversation, though. 😉

Scapular inside, crucifix and medals outside. The teabag comment was funny. A Protestant houseguest who saw it in the evening once asked me if it contained garlic! 😃

Crucifix - usually inside, but if it’s a v-neck blouse, it’s outside by default. I hate to admit being so shallow, but it’s usually a fashion decision - if it would look good on the outside - say, with a mock turtleneck, I wear it outside. If I want to wear another necklace, it stays in. And I had a tiny crucifix attached to a bracelet that I always wear, just in case the time comes when I wear a necklace in the same position as the crucifix would be, and they would tangle or look silly together. I don’t do that often, but the option is there. But I would never be without the crucifix in one place or another!

I recently met someone who wore both a crucifix and a plain, Protestant-style cross together. I thought to myself, this girl’s conflicted, and when I got to talking with her, it turned out she was a Protestant considering converting. She soon joined the RCIA and was received into the Church this past Easter. But she still wears both crosses, as a sign of her past and her present.

The priest at Church today blessed all three of my medals individually and with holy water! I wear a Papal Crucifix, a St. Benedict Medal and a Miraculous Medal…I wear them OUT, when I have on a T-Shirt and my button shirt open (I like colored dress Ts with casual shirts open. When I am dressed (buttoned up) naturally I have them inside…but I display my faith without any shame…its a personal thing and no way do I disparge anyone who wishes to keep theirs inside. 🙂

I wear my cruciform on the outside. If any one asks about it I’m always ready to explain. I am proud of my catholic beliefs and have been called many things because of it but you never know when you can change someones mind!

Scapular inside and crucifix outside. When visible it is a public witness for not only my faith, but for the Lord’s Supreme Sacrifice for me as well as those who are offended, or, ignorant of it. It is as much of a public witness as a habit, or the clerics, are for religious, deacons and priests. In an unbelieving world it is important to bear witness to the Lord.

Your unworthy brother in Christ and by the Grace of God a future Maronite priest,
Donnchadh

My crucifix and miraculous medal is outside, on a chain long enough so that it is within my own vision. It is a witness to my faith, but more importantly, it is my constant reminder to try and live my faith!

I wear my miraclous medal outside my shirt for several reasons.
  1. The little metal loop scratches my skin
  2. It gets dull really fast
  3. I am not trying to hide my faith
4.People recognize me as a Catholic when I wear a miraclous medal (infact about a year ago I was visiting a nursing home one time and an old man spotted the medal and asked which Parish I went to. He ended up being a large contributer to the parish (my parent’s parish actually) and, widdowed, he was deciding where to leave his money when he died. …He died six months ago and I found out that h gave it to the church)
