Wear scapular medal instead of scapular

I was wondering if it would be okay to wear a scapular medal, on a necklace or something, rather than the scapular. The reason is because the fabric of the one I have is making my back break out in the spot it rests on, and the acne is painful. (On a side note, my mother constantly tries to tell me to take off my scapular, because of that and that the strings look bad with a lot of my outfits. Would wearing the medal in full view be okay, so that it’s not like I am ashamed of the scapula? I’m not ashamed, because the strings don’t particularly bother me, but they do choke me sometimes

Wearing the scapular or any religious medal is a private devotion and not to be used as a trinket in a superstitious way.

Wearing the medal is perfectly fine if you are wearing it as part of your devotion to the Blessed Mother.

Although the cloth scapular is generally preferred, it’s my understanding that allergies (like your acne) are considered sufficient basis to switch to the medal.

Having said that, a lot of the cloth scapulars made nowadays don’t seem to be up to the task of continuous wear. My mother and I made several attempts to wear the scapular and had problems ranging from the strings breaking to the brown dye coming off on our skin and clothes. I was invested on August 13 and started another attempt to wear one full-time. As of a few days ago I had to take off the one I was wearing because the strings were disintegrating, constantly catching in my hair and my Miraculous Medal cord, and about to break in one spot. I will be swapping in another model of scapular while I develop a permanent solution to this, which may involve sewing my own, or sewing some type of cover for the store bought ones.
