Wearing a Rosary for Chastity purposes?

Good grief, man. Why don’t you just say “the devil made me do it!” You’ll notice that I’m relatively new to the site by I would never have guessed that people on a Catholic website could be so wishy-washy about sin, occasions of sin and the consequences they entail.

I perfectly realize that nobody is perfect and I’m perfectly aware of the necessity of confession. However, to suggest that sins against chastity (and I’m assuming we’re talking about sex outside of marriage) are things that “just” happen and we resolve them by running to confession at the next possible opportunity seems to be a dangerous position. I wonder what a priest would say to a person who said they cut sex with their girlfriend short so they could make it to confession???

To say “I only pray when I’m tempted” sounds very much like those who only pray to God when something goes wrong in their life and expect the Almighty to snap His divine finger and make all things ok.

And finally, the “quit judging others” bit gets old very quick. I’m not judging anyone; I’m only saying what we all know without the whitewash.

Tim, I pray often, and when I am tempted, I pray more often. You are making assumptions that people are saying they only pray when they feel tempted. I don’t think those assumptions are fair. Anyway, not trying to beat anyone up, just pointing out that people sin and are often times tempted by some things more than others.

You certainly wouldn’t expect a heroine addict to stop shooting up just because you told him it was wroing would you? He needs more help than that. Thats also holds true for any addiction, whether it be porn, sex, cigarettes, or alcohol.

Don’t worry about such things. If they help you become a better person you are better off concerning yourself about more important things.

What if wearing an unblessed Rosary is the only thing that can remind me to remain chaste and help me in times of temptation? Is it still unacceptable? I don’t think it’s sacrilegious if it isn’t blessed, it’s not for fashion (publicly displayed), and I have an actual devotion to Mary. What’s the general consensus here on wearing Rosaries?
