In our parish church, there is a chart by the door showing the proper attire for men and women. On Sundays, there are ushers/greeters who remind some people about the proper dress code. And yes, baseball caps should not be worn inside - in general.
As a guy who has been bald since I was 17 I’d beg to differ with the last sentence. Hats for some of us are there in lieu of hair that many of you take for granted…

I would gladly trade with a bald person, but I don’t guess science has gotten us to that point yet. 😃

Actually… I think they can currently laser your head to remove your hair permanently if you’re so inclined. Though I don’t recommend it, having no hair can get mighty cold in the winter. And the sweat can be brutal dripping into your eyes in summer. Hence baseball caps are a must for me most of the time other than mass or formal occasions of course. And for the latter fedoras have made a comeback in my house.

Fair enough - and fedoras are a sharp look!

I don’t think baldness is a ticket to wearing ballcaps or hats of any kind in church, else every 60- or 70-something male with age-relatd hair loss would be claiming a need to keep their hat on.

Nor did I suggest such a thing

Maybe caps with the words “Catholic” may be more appropriate. Come to think of it, why not?

I mean the episcopate get to wear mitres, and women can wear head scarves, why shouldn’t lay men get to wear something? Especially with male pattern baldness on the rise. 😉

Better hope you don’t go before Judge Judy 😉

Generally though, I have noticed a certain “anything goes” attitude in recent years. Especially among the youth. Older folks tend to know better.
BTW, the two men that I mentioned wearing baseball caps at Mass appeared middle aged and older. Go figure.

1 Corinthians 11 : 4 - 5 “Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head…”
7. " A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man."

This is where the Church got it’s rules…:byzsoc: :signofcross:

And yet the church doesn’t require women to cover their heads anymore. Which would seem to imply that the church no longer believes Corinthians 11:4-5 is valid for women anymore. Why would it be any different for men?

If the baseball cap says Red Sox then the person needs to go to confession.

Even that has always been taken as an ideal, not as a command. Clergy have worn birettas and zucchettos during Mass for centuries, and the bishops will wear their miters during the Gospel.

That’s probably why he was wearing a baseball hat - possible med condition resulting in hair loss. It’s really not a big deal.
I’m thinking partially shaved head, stitches, major bandage, …

I don’t think mere baldness is a good reason for a man to wear a hat indoors but I could see a man wearing a hat to “protect” others from having to see something abnormal (and hopefully temporary) about his head.
