Would they even know to take it off during the playing of the national anthem before a sporting event, one wonders.
One can always go to the bathroom or get a hot dog during that time. Just sayin…

How does the fact that there is a culture change where it is becoming more common for men to wear hats indoors (I’m not denying that) that it is no longer a sign of respect to remove one’s hat? You are the one talking about disrespect. I’m talking about showing respect. Some people don’t see anything wrong with “pants on the ground” or wearing pajamas to the store and anywhere else out in public. I see it all the time, some young man walking down the street or at the grocery store pulling his pants down below his buttocks showing his boxers. Those fads are now widely acceptable too or so it seems. Hardly anyone complains about it accept General Larry Platt Does it make those who do not follow those fads “old fashioned” “out of touch” “living in the past” ? Yes it is a fad to wear hats indoors now. But I still believe that removing one’s hat is a sign of respect that is not out of date.
Those dang kids!

Can we all at least agree that non-service dogs (like those little purse chihuahuas) have no business in church?

Guy sat down in the row in front of me at mass a few weeks back, after missing the first reading, with a tiny chihuahua in his arms. He set it down in the pew and let it wander around. Very distracting. The dog didn’t care for the sermon however and made a beeline for the door down the main aisle with her owner close on her heels.
lol, I’d like to think so. We have one lady who is mentally challenged. I’m not sure what all her issues are but she has had a helper dog, (service dog) that she needs it for whatever reason. She has had the dog since he was a pup. Whether I like it or not I try to be sympathetic towards her and leave that decision to the pastor. For the longest time the woman concealed her little white dog in her bag or under her coat. Now the dog is medium size and not so easy to hide. But I’m sure she has permission from the pastor. The dog is well behaved and never barks or makes any kind of annoyance in church, sits very still all during Mass. The only problem is, other people seem to think it is ok to bring their dog to church. Recently a man was spotted with his big dog -not obvious to be a service dog,
in Church.

Not that long ago at my parish a man came in behind me wearing a ball cap. After a few minutes it became apparent that he was not very familiar with the Mass so the next time everybody stood, I turned around, smiled, and said, “Sorry to bother you - I just wanted to let you know you should remove your hat.” And he smiled back and said, “Oh, I’m sorry,” and took it off.

No big deal. And if he’d chosen to mouth off at me I still wouldn’t have felt bad for **kindly **saying something. 🤷
So how did you know he didn’t have a medical condition or wasn’t self-conscious about his hair? I didn’t realize we now have the cap police who pat themselves on the back every time they see baseball caps in church.

To borrow from George carlin.

So Catholic women and Jewish men have to wear hats but Catholic men and Jewish women can’t?

Bishops sometimes wear hats. Cardinals have red hats. Pope has a white one.

Geesh people. You can look it on YouTube. You tube is a website. A website is on the Internet, the Internet was invented by al gore. Al gore is … Never mind. 😃

It’s a piece of clothing. It’s a piece of clothing that has no morality attached to it at all, no immodesty, no indecency. About the only sin a hat causes us the sins others fall into when getting upset about it:rolleyes:

Honestly the next time I see a medieval knight in church who refuses to lift his visor, I’ll be right with all of you I being wary of an aggressive soldier. But until then… Y’all need to chill.

So Catholic women and Jewish men have to wear hats but Catholic men and Jewish women can’t? Why are both ways somehow honorable or dishonorable? Are Jewish men dishonoring God if they wear headgear in a Catholic Church?

I didn’t and don’t consider myself part of the “cap police.” 🤷

I think it’s friendly and helpful to offer assistance where it seems to be needed. I’m not some busybody, but I’ve been in enough social situations where I had absolutely no clue what was expected of me and felt like I was floundering, and being too anxious to ask for help. I’m not keen to make other people go through that.

So, I offer. Most of the time it is very gratefully accepted. Sometimes it is ignored. That’s fine. Catholics already have a reputation of being unfriendly and unhelpful to newcomers at Mass. I’d rather not perpetuate that notion, myself.

Lucky you are a woman. Less likely to get talked back to. I’m currious. Why not tell the women around you to veil. I mean it shows respect right? There is actually more precedent for that than not wearing a hat.

All I know is after this thread the old Stetson is coming out of the box for Mass on Sunday for me…

Not to worry, bolo tie will be included.

Gotta give folks something other than my children to scowl at me over.

Interesting! I’ve never thought about the idea that mandatory enforcement of the hats off policy is really kind of against what the flag stands for…
This should clear it up for everyone.
We are to take our hats off because it is respectful, but it’s respectful because it’s respectful.

So, what kind of attention is it that you deserve? What kind of nonsense is this that you deserve anything? God is the one who deserves your rapt attention during all parts of the Mass. Your line of thinking is shameful.
Think “tongue in cheek.”

I often see folks taking off their caps during the national anthem, but not all.

Then you won’t want to hear about the little dog, belonging to a local Catholic pastor, who used to attend Mass frequently.

But he didn’t wear a hat. 😉

Now you’ve done it. We’re gonna have to see the picture of the little dog on the bald man’s head again:)
