Before you keel over from my question let me state I wear a long skirt to Sunday Mass when my parents go to church.

I am 19 years old and by my own choice (and much to my parent’s dislike) I attend Daily Mass. I don’t own a car so I have to walk the 2 1/2 miles. My jeans are very, very dark blue (though the knees are somewhat warn;) ) They are not too tight or too loose. I wore jeans to Daily Mass all through the winter and now that its summer I think that it would be better than wearing shorts, right?

I see no problems with it. I also see no problems with decent shorts either.

You will find there are some who will judge you according to what they feel should be the cultural norm. I wouldn’t let them bother you too much about it.

The key to remember is to be respectful in all you do.

:clapping: I applaud your decision to make daily mass. :clapping:

God bless you for your faith and effort! I would be thrilled if my children choose to go to daily mass!!
On the jeans, I even wear them to Sunday mass sometimes. (I live in Texas now, we are a little casual down here). As long as they are clean and in good taste, I think it is fine. Especially as young as you are. My mom let me wear jeans so I let my kids wear jeans. Shorts, now that is for sure a no no.
Again, may God abundantly bless you for your devotion to the faith. It is inspiring!

I’m with you. Sunday mass is a time for presenting ourselves as a community to God, and deserves being dressed up for. But daily mass, at least for me, is a sign of our personal commitment to God and desire to be intimate with God one on one. Tasteful casual clothes seem appropriate int hat sense. I did the same way in highschool, and still am in college.

wear whatever you feel is good taste and is not distracting to others. if that is conservative shorts it’s fine, if it’s jeans it’s fine if it’s a fruit basket hat…not fine 😃 . some people get so up in arms about jeans and shorts but they don’t understand that the styles have changed and jeans can actually be considered “dressy”. nice shorts can also be considered casual dress in today’s style. no one would consider a halter top dressy or short shorts or jeans with holes. those are plain casual and should be avoided unless there is no other option. God is not as concerned with how you look on the outside but with how you look on the inside. that doesn’t mean we don’t want to present ourselves in a fashion befitting Him, it just means we have better things to worry about than what some one else is wearing.

I think anyone should be able to attend daily mass in work clothes, casual clothes, or anything that is not in poor taste. Shorts on some people are fine. Not on me. I also think people should try to dress up more for Sunday mass. Those of us who believe so should do our best to set a good example. We should also not condem those who wear jeans and T-shirts. However, I draw the line when it comes to spaghetti strap tops and bellies showing.

God Bless,
Denise

God bless you for walking 2 1/2 miles to visit our Lord.! Jeans are very appropriate for what you are doing.

I wear jeans to daily Mass all winter as well.

Greetings Church

I was a Horse Breeder for over 35 years. Part of my job was showing horses and nearly all Horse Shows are on the weekends. I had to get up and go to very early Sunday Mass. I went in jeans and boots.

I was told by folks who knew, that there were a few people who complained to Father. His answer to them was “at least she is at Mass”!

I think folks worry about things God has little worry about.
After having cancer, I have learned not to sweat the small things. That is not a bad thing to learn. I recommend it.

I think its great that you go to daily mass, you are doing better than me! I dont think jeans are a problem, like you said, they are not tight or inappropriate in anyway. Since you walk to church, I would think that the dress would be more comfortable but what do I know about wearing dresses??

thank you to everone who replied…

bengal-fan: one time my jeans did have holes:o …in the knees…lol…I didn’t realize before it and didn’t have another pair. The capel has rugged kneelers so it makes it hard on jeans. I’d almost perfer hard vinal kneelers

martino: a dress would be nice, except for 1)i’d be crazy to walk across town in one especally since I usually have to run
2) I would have to wear nice shoes and not sneakers or snow boots 🙂

please more opinons appreciated.

:hmmm: umm who was that addressed to…I’m obvously not a guy:) But I agree to that.

You should be just fine wearing jeans to daily mass. Many people that go daily go right to work afterwards and don’t have time to go home and change. You are quite a young lady to take your faith so seriously. This is what our church needs.
God bless you,

From Louisiana, where it’s 100 degrees with 110% humidity. Shorts are required wear to Church. Although I do wear long pants when it’s not too hot out. Since I’ve been to Mass in flight suits and jungle fatigues, I don’t really think God minds.

It’s 110 degrees in the shade and humidity is close to 100%. Mr. A comes to Mass dressed in his Sunday best. Being an old church, the AC is on the blink and the place feels like a sauna. Mr. B comes to church in his shorts.

Through out mass Mr. A is so incomfortable that he keeps looking at his watch and the only thing he can think about is when he can get out of there so he can get into his car and blast the AC. Mr. B is more comfortable and able to focus more on the Mass.

Who got more out of the Mass? The man dressed in his Sunday best or the man dressed in shorts?

The bottomline should be that we dress properly based on circumstances.

I go to daily Mass and often wondered if I could dress down for the weekdays. I decided for myself that since I’m presenting myself before Jesus, I’d try to dress as nice as possible.

Then other thoughts came to me.

What about adoration?
A short visit to the Blessed Sacrament?
Did the Apostles dress up every time they were around Jesus?
Jesus probably does not worry about our dress on Weekdays but cares more about the heart.

From a guy’s perspective…
We need to dress modestly. If we participate in bringing temptations to others by our dress, it might have been been better had we not come to Mass. We don’t want to come to Christ for strengthening and cleansing and at the same time cause our brother or sister to fall.

What do you thnk?

methinks Jesus told the Apostles to only have one cloak so they wouldn’t of been really dressed up.
