How many medals do you wear, and how?

I have a number of Saint and devotional medals. I currently have 3 (Miraculous, Blessed Mother Teresa, and St. Augustine) on my long silver chain. I have others; they aren’t blessed yet, but I think 3 is more than enough on a chain. I also have a second chain that has my St. Dymphna medal with relic on it, but I haven’t been wearing it as it started to rust/tarnish for some reason.

Do you change your medals out? How do you wear them? I know some people also put them on a safety pin and attach to a bra strap, or undershirt.

In regard to wearing them visible or not, I sometimes have them outside of my shirt, other times under. They are usually under due to my clothing options, but often are showing (interesting when I’m in a bar, for sure! And if I have my crucifix necklace! Live the Faith OUT LOUD!).

Currently, I’m just wearing a brown scapular and St. Benedict Crucifix, but I think I’m gonna try to add to that now. 🙂

I used to wear or have on me in my pockets so many things (like over a dozen things including a 5-fold scapular :D), but had to stop not too long ago because of a vocational change which kinda forced me to not wear so many. ^^;

Right now I’m wearing a St. Benedict medal and a Marian medal containing water from Lourdes.

I wear a five way medal and a Our Lady of La Leche medal on a chain and a st. benedicts medal and crucifix on my scapular, I have pinned other medals to my camisole strap when I needed spiritual aid but normally I dont see anything wrong with wearing several visible medals.

I wear a Crucifix & Miraculous Medal on one chain which I wear on the outside. I also wear a Brown Scapula.

Cool, another brown scapular wearer! 🙂 Not sure if u are aware, but also for those that may not be, there’s a 500 days indulgence granted each time one devoutly kisses their brown scapular. So kiss it at least once a day and if one feels so inclined, offer that 500 days for a holy soul in purgatory (that’s what I do). 🙂

Three medals around my neck:
  • St. Christopher vintage medal
  • St. Michael the Archangel
  • Miraculous Medal
Nine on a bracelet:
  • Divine Mercy
  • St. Benedict
  • St. Bernadette
  • St. Joan of Arc
  • St. Jude
  • Miraculous Medal
  • Our Lady of Guadalupe
  • Our Lady of Knock
  • St. Thérèse of Lisieux
I also have a crucifix on the neck chain. Everything around my neck is on a charm holder so it all stays in one place. All medals plus the crucifix are blessed. I have three other blessed medals that I obtained during my recent vacation and a fourth that my mother gave me a year or so ago, but at the moment I have no plans to add them to what I already wear nor do I wish to change out any of the currently-worn medals.

Besides all this, I do have numerous non-blessed medals as well. Ironically, one medal I’m missing is St. James the Greater, to whom I have a devotion.

The bracelet is always visible. The necklace is usually visible, but if I’m wearing clothing that the charm holder catches on easily—like my alpaca sweater or a crocheted shirt—then I’ll tuck the chain inside.

God bless 🙂

I wear a metal scapular that my daughter got me at the Vatican, a St Rita of cascia medal with a relic in it, a miraculous medal and a small cross

Don’t forget the other requirements for indulgences; prayers for the intentions of the Holy a father, receiving the Eucharist, and confession–which makes daily indulgences no easy accomplishment,

I wear a Miraculous Medal, a St. Lucy Medal (my patron), and a Catholic medal that identifies me as a Catholic in case of emergency. I wear them all on the same chain and I never take them off. Sadly, I only wear a cross bracelet, so I need to get a crucifix. I like having them against my skin, it makes me feel safer, but sometimes they’re outside my shirt. I would also LOVE to start wearing a scapular, most likely a brown one!

I wear a Brown Scapular as well (Brown Scapular wearers unite! 😃 ) and recently I attached a Miraculous Medal to it. It works well to keep my scapular from blowing around when its above my clothing.

The days attached to indulgences no longer apply

You’re thinking of plenary. 😃 For partial, it’s not as difficult, as u generally just need to do the prescribed work with the intention of gaining the indulgence. 🙂

I just gave a look-thru my Manual of Indulgences book, and I can see that you’re right! ^^; Thanks for pointing that out!
Thankfully, though, it appears a partial indulgence is still granted to “the faithful who use with devotion an object of piety (crucifix, cross, rosary, scapular or medal) properly blessed by any priest.”

I wear a brown scapular and then a chain with a miraculous medal and a St. Benedict cross. I swap these out at night with a lesser quality brown scapular (that I can shower and sleep with and not worry about wear & tear), and have attached a miraculous medal and a St. Benedict medal.

There are many many medals one can wear but when I noticed an older friend from Church have her medals out (on top of her blouse rather than under) and I saw what looked like a roll of quarters hanging on a chain. I think it’s important to be prudent and use blessed medals with devotion and not a spirit of “have to have them all to be covered every which way”.

I wear a brown scapular, which always stays under my clothing. I also wear a St. Benedict cross and the Angelic Warfare Confraternity medal, which are beneath or on top of my clothing, depending on what I’m wearing. E.g., if I’m wearing a tie and dress shirt, they will be under, but when I wear a t-shirt they’ll go over it.

I have an older friend who wears many medals like your church friend does. She received many of hers as gifts and it makes her happy to wear them. She has a deep love for the Lord, and she also wears these medals for sentimental reasons.

As for myself, I wear a handful that I have worn for years, underneath my clothing. I also wear a brown scapular.

My late wife used to wear about a DOZEN medals,
crucifixes, and scapulars around her neck 24/7!
When she landed in the hospital, they had to cut
thru the chains, because they were so dirty and
cannot be undone.

I wear a Miraculous Medal, a Bl. Junipero Serra medal and an Angelic Warfare medal All on separate chains). I normally wear a brown scapular but it broke and I need to get another one. I have a St. Benedict exorcism medal but I feel I should be an oblate before I wear it.

I just wear one cross under my clothes, and that’s all… is it so important to wear many things? For me what counts is having at least one religious symbol on my heart at all times, but I don’t think it would make any difference if I wore three, or ten…
Also, for those who reply, can you specify whether you are a man or a woman and how long the chain is? I think these factors do have an impact on the decision of wearing it inside or outside the clothes.

Same for me.
I always wear at least ONE. Either my Brown Scapular *, a Celtic Cross, or a St Michael medal a friend sent me from the USA, or a St Benedict medal with I bought in São Bento da Porta Aberta, or a Miraculous Medal.

I sometimes also wear a St Michael Scapular [the blue and black shields].

All blessed, by the way 🙂

Women normaly wear them in longer chains: Makes it better to hide with long necklines like it’s wore by fashion. Men and more discreat women wear middle-lenght or short. Personaly, I like middle lenght: makes it perfect to tuck under my t-shirt or leave it showing :)*
