Wearing multiple medals?

My mom recently gave me a St. Anthony medal. And I’ve been thinking of getting medals for other saints I admire, including my dual patrons–Sts. Francis De Sales and Francis of Assisi. But what is the practice regarding multiple medals? Would you wear one at a time, cram several onto one chain, wear one medal one day and another the next, or wear numerous chains and medals at the same time, and risk looking like Sammy Davis?
 
I have a crucifix and two medals on one chain. They wear the finish off each other though. Tim
 
You can do whatever you find best. Personally I wear two medals and a Rosary Ring on the one chain. I have others which are either attached to my Rosary (which is in my handbag) or kept in the house or handbag.

My personal limit would be about three though - don’t want to scare the birds away with my rattling (St Francis surely wouldn’t approve of it! 😉 )
 
There’s always the Liberace look! He was a Catholic too.😃
 
I attach them to my Scapular, which I wear under my clothes. The wool of the Scapular muffles the rattling.
 
I take the view of the late the Earl Mountbatten. When the Prince of Wales was a young man he asked about wearing all of his (secular) decorations. The Earl said: If you’ve got 'em wear 'em.

Good advice for us as well.👍

Are you boy or girl? :o My dear friend wears all her medals at once on a beautiful charm bracelet. She could never decide which one to wear and had accumulated so many in her jewelry box that she put them all on a silver charm bracelet and they look gorgeous that way!

If you are a boy - well, my husband just wears three on one chain and rattles a lot. 🙂

I’m also a man and wear a crucifix from the New Cathedral in St. Louis, a Miraculous Medal from the National Shrine, and a St. Michael/USAF medal.
 
I wear the miraculous medal and just recently I received the Medallion of Our Lady of America. (for purity of heart and great love for Jesus and Mary) The Medallion is really quite large and heavy (much larger than my Miraculous Medal) and I have them both on one chain.

I have asked for either my birthday (coming up) or Christmas for a nice crucifix but I think I need that on a different chain and I think I might specify that it be small and dainty otherwise I will be really weighed down.😃
 
I used to wear three different medals on three seperate chains of varying lengths; that way they neither rattled nor rubbed against each other.

Personally, what I do is wear one medal every day, but I vary it. I have several crucifixes and Miraculous Medals, a St. Patrick medal (my patron saint), a St. Joseph medal (patron of fathers), and St. Christopher medal, and a St. James medal (patron of arthritis sufferers—and mine gets worse every day :)).
 
I wear a Miraculous Medal, St. Benedict’s medal, a crucifix, a medal showing Jesus and His Sacred Heart, and a medal with a color photo of Mary on it. From time to time, people grab it and say “what da…?”

I wear them 24 / 7.

2) I also wear a medal of Our Lady of Częstochowa with Pope John Paul II on the other side. The Black Madonna of Częstochowa, in Polish "Matka Boska Częstochowska", in Latin "Imago thaumaturga Beatae Virginis Mariae Immaculatae Conceptae, in Claro Monte".

I’m a convert. My wife is Black and very dark skinned. At first I was worried about our country’s history of racism and what role the Catholic Church may have had in it. Aside from resolving other matters, because Our Lady of Częstochowa is a very beautiful Black woman and as dark or darker than my wife, my concern about racism in the Catholic Church completely disappeared on August 26, 2003. I could not possibly argue that I was more concerned about racism than Mary (when she herself was Black).

3) And I wear a medal of the Immaculate Conception (aka “the Miraculous Medal”).

I think every Catholic living in the United States should wear the Miraculous Medal because the United States was dedicated to Mary, the Immaculate Conception. This medal provides me with much grace and it also reflects love of both God and Country.

The medals normally jingle a little bit when I walk but it is quiet.

I think you should wear the medals that you want to wear so long as they represent something meaningful to you and that they help to inspire you. Don’t wear them because of superstition or because somebody else tells you to wear them. Wear medals that will be good for your heart and soul.

I had the same dilemma and solved it this way…I took a very slender length of leather and put my medal of Our Lady of Guadalupe on it separated it with 3 pewter beads then took my medal of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and another 3 pewter beads and then finished off with my medal of ST. Faustina and three additional pewter beads on each end. All of these medals have different medals on the opposite face so I can wear my necklace of love either front or backward. I did this because I wanted to have each of my medals lay flat…I’ve had several people comment on them and some of them have asked me about Catholicism! How great it is to tell them how wonderful it is to take Holy Communion.

Know what though, I did have a fellow parishioner tell me that medals are not jewelry and that I shouldn’t have made the necklace. My reply was that I was not wearing it as a piece of jewelry but as devotion to the Church. Boy…sometimes it’s hard to play nice but never impossible! 🙂
