Wearing our rosary?

Is wrong? I was told I was not allowed to wear it. Idk why. Could someone explain? I jsut like keeping my religion close to heart.
 
I wear mine. You never know when you will need it. There is no rule supporting or opposing it. But it’s very important to point out that you have to treat the rosary as it is. It’s not a necklace. If you’re going to wear it like one you have to treat it as a Sacred Relic. I like to wear mine so Christ is always near my heart. Plus I feel it’s a little better than stuffing it in my pocket between my wallet and cell phone. Treat it with the respect it deserves and there’s nothing wrong with wearing it. Just remember it identifies you as Catholic and that wearing it, you never know when you’ll be an example to someone else. So if you’re wearing it publicly, make sure your life mimics your faith 😉 God Bless!
 
I’m actually a Roman Catholic and I wear mine around my hand all the time! When you wear it, it identifies what religion you are part of and what faith you believe in. The rosary is a very powerful prayer and we never know when we need it. Treat it with respect and love!

It is fine, if done in the proper spirit. According to several sources, including Michelle Arnold of Catholic Answers, one can wear rosary beads to feel closer to Jesus, or as an act of piety. In fact, several religious orders wear rosaries on their person --usually on the waist rather than around the neck. Here is a link which talks about it further.

Wearing a rosary as a statement of faith or for some other innocent purpose is fine. There would only be a problem if the rosary were being put to some objectively sordid use. For example, if someone were to wear a rosary with an immodest outfit in order to contrast the symbolic purity of the rosary with the otherwise tawdry appearance, that would be morally problematic.

Certainly you can wear your rosary. Many people do. It has become poular now for women to wear rosary-like necklaces as fashion and unfortunately some gangs wear real rosaries. However some faithful, devout Catholics also wear their rosaries to keep them close and untangled.
 
There’s nothing wrong with it, but it can get uncomfortable.
 
Unfortunately the Rosary has become a symbol in gangs. When I think of wearing the Rosary I remember the Sisters and Nuns who wore them on the side of their habit, but not as jewelry.

That being said, I know many devoted Catholics who do wear their Rosary under their clothes along with their Scapular.

Sometimes I wear one tucked into my shirt. There’s nothing wrong with doing it… However…

I went to the mall yesterday, for the first time in ages, and was surprised to see clothing display after clothing display with rosaries hung around the necks of the dress forms… :rolleyes:

And that, along with thugs wearing them, is why I do not advise anyone to wear them. There is nothing intrinsically bad, but the act has become closely associated with certain things.
 
St. Louis de Montfort wrote in his Secret of the Rosary encouraged wearing the rosary. Not to be afraid of being “viewed as a peasant.”

Coming from a background in which I too was taught the rosary is not jewelry, I do tend to wear mine under my clothing.
While some individuals may wear the rosary merely as a fashion statement, how do we know that God won’t use that statement to lead people to Himself? Is it possible that seeing the rosary worn or displayed openly will lead people to learn about its history and begin praying the rosary?

Yes, unfortunately. I agree with others who have noted that in places this has become associated with some gangs. It almost seems they are being worn as a gesture of contempt, defiance, or rejection of the values the rosary represents. Especially true I would think when displayed as you described.
 
Back when I first began serving poor American American and Hispanic youth (aka “thugs” and “gangsters”) I asked a young man why he was wearing his rosary around his neck. And he asked me why I had a problem with him showing his faith to the world.

The girls I see in our mall wearing rosaries around their necks for the most part are showing a ***lot ***of things to the world by how they dress, but their faith: not so much.
 
I wear my Miraculous Medal for daytime, but at night, I put on my very comfortable, wooden- beaded rosary that is put together with soft cord. When I wake at night, it comforts me to have it close to my heart, reminding me of my devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Putting it around my neck started during some bad, anxious, scary nights that I had in the past. The comfort it gave me helped it became a very important sacramental, reminding me of God’s protection and love for me at night. Now it has become something that I always do, because it feels so wonderful.
 
I think you can wear it, since obviously you are intending to do so devoutly, but you have to also consider what others will think of that. Do you mean over your clothes, visibly? Certainly there is no problem if you do it underneath.

But since the 1980s rock stars who mock Catholicism, etc., have worn it over their clothes to be “ironic,” and to ridicule the faith. So you don’t want to give the impression you are doing that… just think about what the effect will be on others’ faith. Perhaps it will inspire them, or perhaps it will add to the abuse of the rosary… only you can know.
