On first thought I would be inclined to say it is not appropriate. I discourage my 5th grade CCD kids from wearing it like a necklace. I think the holy rosary is to be treated as a sacramental. Especially if it has been blessed by a priest or a deacon. If I am in error on this, someone please advise.

Shalom, Tim

Is it permissable to wear the rosary around your neck? Carole
Hi,

If you pray the rosary and wear it out of devotion then there is nothing wrong in wearing it around your neck, but if you do not pray the rosary and are just wearing it to copy the fashion trend then I.M.O that is wrong.

I wear my rosary around my neck and also pray the rosary and the Devine Mercy prayer.

But the best place to wear the rosary is in your hands.

Yours in the Spirit

gee whiz … on second thought, my observation is not consistent with the notion that wearing a scapular as a necklace which is very appropriate. And for that matter, the scapular is certainly a sacramental. All I am really trying to convey is that in my personal opinion, wearing a rosary like a necklace is not altogether appropriate … but then again, that is only my opinion. Some folks no doubt will disagree with me.

Shalom, Tim.

People I know who wear the rosary to Church do so under their shirt, and so they can pray it there- you can’t even tell unless you happen to know them.

The Blessed Virgin Mary, in her various apparitions, has instructed us to " … pray the rosary often and even wear it around our neck …".

Well, I used to, but the crucifix kept getting caught in my bra (sorry, lads - avert your eyes) and I’d end up with a broken rosary and beads rolling round the floor. So apparitions or no apparitions, it now lives in my pocket, or bag if my garments don’t have any pockets.

I never wear it around my neck…I have a miraculous medal for that.
I carry my Rosary in my pocket and try to pray it every day.

I prefer to wear mine, when I don’t wear my glasses. In my pocket it gets tangled up with my keys, knife, change, toothpicks, lighter, etc…

Like Trelow, I prefer to wear mine. In my pocketbook it gets tangled up with my keys, gloves, brassknuckles, lottery tickets, handgun, flask, etc…

just kidding, guys. Catholics can smile, too:D :whacky:

I have friends who are farmers who wear theirs under their shirts, too (even the kids!) so they can pray while they work. What bothers me are the Britney Spears wannabes & the thugs who wear the Rosary as a fashion accessory. They don’t even know what it’s about.

When my wife, kids and myself recite the rosary my 3 year old takes hers and immediately wears it around her neck. I hope it’s ok, because there may be no stopping her.

This is very interesting. . .could you give a reference where I can read this? It would be good information to have since I’ve been involved with this discussion before.

I can’t find a link to what I made reference to but here are some other references supportive of wearing a rosary around the neck … *] circleofprayer.com/secret31.html
Blessed Alan relates that a man he knew had tried desperately all kinds of devotions to rid himself of the evil spirit which possessed him, but without success. Finally, he thought of wearing his rosary round his neck, which eased him considerably. He discovered that whenever he took it off the devil tormented him cruelly, so he resolved to wear it night and day. This drove the evil spirit away forever because he could not bear such a terrible chain. Blessed Alan also testifies that he delivered a great number of those who were possessed by putting a rosary round their necks.
Father Jean Amƒt, of the Order of St. Dominic, was giving a series of Lenten sermons in the Kingdom of Aragon one year, when a young girl was brought to him who was possessed by the devil. After he had exorcised her several times without success, he put his rosary round her neck. Hardly had he done so when the girl began to scream and cry out in a fearful way, shrieking, “Take it off, take it off; these beads are tormenting me.” At last, the priest, filled with pity for the girl, took his rosary off her.
The very next night, when Fr. Amƒt was in bed, the same devils who had possession of the girl came to him, foaming with rage and tried to seize him. But he had his rosary clasped in his hand and no efforts of theirs could wrench it from him. He beat them with it very well indeed and put them to flight, crying out, “Holy Mary, Our Lady of the Rosary, come to my help.”
The next day on his way to the church, he met the poor girl, still possessed; one of the devils within her started to jeer at him, saying, “Well, brother, if you had been without your rosary, we should have made short shrift of you.” Then the good Father threw his rosary round the girl’s neck without more ado, saying, “By the sacred names of Jesus and Mary his holy Mother, and by the power of the holy Rosary, I command you, evil spirits, to leave the body of this girl at once.” They were immediately forced to obey him, and she was delivered from them.

My children, it is not for decoration that I have asked you to wear your beads of prayer about your neck. It was for when you flee; you will have your armor upon you." - Our Lady, May 30, 1973

Worth remembering is the Servant of God Giacomino Gaglione, with a Rosary always around his neck, a visible sign of his fervent devotion.

Its been culturally acceptable to wear the rosary around your neck in latin countires for a long time.

The pope saw Bono wear the rosary around his neck. He told him he like it. He didn’t tell him to take it off.

I am sure some sisters or priests don’t like it but there is no canon law on how to wear a rosary or if to wear a rosary.

I would hope most regard it as more than a fasion accessory but you can’t stop heathens from wearing a cross or crucifex look at the rappers and rock starts.
Heathens are often ironically attracted to the Holy,
