Hello sisters!
How many of you ladies wear the chapel veil at Mass?
I know it is not a requirement, but it is a favourite sacramental of mine. I got mine custom-made at an Etsy shop and wore it to Mass!

Do you like the chapel veil at Mass?If so, why?

(Updated Version)
With forewords from some people, this is for laypeople and parishoners about wearing the chapel veil at Mass.

FYI, there have been many threads on this, and for some strange reason this is one of CAF’s hot button issues. Soon someone will correct your word usage too by pointing out that veiling as a verb should only be used for religious sisters, and lay people “wear a veil.”😋

Now that you’ve been forewarned, I do “veil” at Mass, and even though I’ve heard all the theological reasons for it, really I do it just because it feels right, and most women at my trad parish do it. I don’t analyze the reasons too much.

Just to repeat what Lisa said, there are about 10,000 threads on this topic and 9,999 of them have turned ugly. For some reason this subject brings out the worst in people (along with a few others like receiving communion in the hand, holding hands during the Our Father, and blessings in the communion line).

I see, okay. I might ask the moderator to delete the topic.
I will come back later as I am recovering from a seizure.

Let the topic remain. It’s always nice to read different views.

I don’t wear a veil, but they remind my of having to wear one as a kid and I think most of them are beautiful
I’ve only seen 2 or 3 wear one at Mass and I don’t think they’re regulars when I do, so, for that reason I don’t veil during Mass.

I went to Adoration at another parish a couple weeks ago and the lady who let me in was wearing one. I might buy one and use it during Adoration.

There are some ladies in my parish that wear a chapel veil or shawl on their heads when they are in church. They do it because it is a traditions where they come from. I have worn a lacy headcover when I have been to the Latin Mass as that is the tradition there. It doesn’t make a difference to me if I wear some kind of headcover or not. I was more confused about where we were in the liturgy and what I should say and when.

I wear a veil and I believe that it is a practice which is very much making a comeback.

Of the women in our congregation who veil all are younger.

I see a ton of ladies 50 years old and older doing it too. For many of them, it never went out to be honest, they’ve been doing it their whole lives like their mom and grandma at the old ethnic parish.

Same here, I wear a head covering (scarf, shawl, doily, veil, whatever I have on hand) to TLM because it’s traditional there. I cover my head other places where it’s traditional to do so, like at the Wailing Wall.

I don’t feel a need to cover my head every time I go to regular OF Mass or into an Adoration chapel, and it doesn’t make me feel more “reverent” to do so. If other ladies wish to cover their heads, or not, that’s fine with me.

I don’t wear one, but have absolutely no issue with women who choose to do so. It’s a personal choice and none of my business

I cover my head. I do not wear a chapel Veil. Today it was a hat, sometimes it’s a scarf, usually it is a wide headband.

[quote.]
I am one of those young women. I wear the veil because I believe in the dignity of womanhood. What is beautiful should be veiled(covered) because it is sacred. Women are sacred because they are the closest collaborators with God in creating Life.

I do not intentionally cover my head. I’ve been of two minds about covering my head for some time now. A lot of women of a lot of different backgrounds cover their heads at my parish. Many but not all are young.

If I did cover my head I think I’d rather wear a hat or a wide headband over a lace veil. Having said that, I did purchase some lace for the express purpose of making myself a lace chapel veil. I haven’t gotten to it yet.
