What would one expect when you have women discussing any type of apparel?🙂
Even our Mennonite friends spend a considerable amount of time choosing fabrics & patterns for their modest dress.
It’s inevitable…🤷 And more honest than “Who can be the most humble & devout”, which would be pretty silly.

Oh it is! There’s no doubt in my mind that you’re correct! I don’t think that the Lord cares one way or the other about whether or not I cover my head.
But I think he understands female vanity and forgives it as well…and what about the Black churches where all the women wear hats that must cost a fortune or what about those fancy yarmulkes on the male Jewish heads?
It’s just a human thing and I don’t see any harm in it unless people are being mean about whether or not someone else is wearing a veil or a beautiful hat or a colorful yarmulke…
and…I have to add, that in some Muslim countries where some women choose NOT to wear a burka I think that SOME OTHER Muslim women are downright hateful about it!

But I’m still a bit bothered. There seems to be two things going on here.
One group wants to veil because they see it as pretty and feminine and dressing in a special way for church. Nothing wrong with that.

But I see another group advocating veils on the grounds that they are modest, traditional, nunlike, show devotion, humilty and obedience…

A huge mismatch!

That’s just human nature for you.It’s never going to all match up perfectly.Which is good.Keeps us humble.😉
 
Go to e-bay look under catholic traditions, they have a wide , selections of veils , and yes it is proper for woman to wear a veil, its in the canon law of 1983 pp8

I saw a picture of a mass taken during the mid-1940’s once; about half of the women in the picture didn’t have their heads covered, and the priest was clearly celebrating the mass. So the move away from headcovering has been around for quite some time.

Actually, “veiling” was not required under the old Code of Canon Law – simply covering the head was.

In the United States, unlike in Spain, the tradition was not to wear a veil, it was to wear a hat. The popularity of the mantilla, or veil, in this country came from the highly fashionable Jackie Kennedy.

For Western women who wish to cover their heads at Mass, a simple hat would actually be more “tradional.”

You are not looking at the big picture, its honoring our mother mary, traditions for 2,000 years

Which canon law are you going by? Its a traditions that has been for 2,000 years. Follow our mother mary example.
 
This is a good thread. I have recently begun to think that it is a very nice tradition, once I undertood the ideas more. But I do also tend to think that wearing it when it’s not the norm, might be counter intuitive in a way, if it makes you stand out. Same point about it being pretty also. But still, I think it is a very nice tradition. I think I would like to if it was the norm.

Could you give the actual word-for-word quotation, please?

It’s often stated on here that it is not mentioned in the 1983 Canon Law,

That is absolutely not true. The 1983 Code abrogated the entire 1917 Code and did not reinstate a headcovering requirement in the new version. This has been demonstrated many times here by canon lawyers if you care to check back through previous threads.

Oh good, I thought it was just me who was going mad. It was the poster giving an actual page number that shook me, which is why I asked for the word-for-word quotation.
We shall see.
