The homosexualist activists have called upon people to wear purple on Oct. 20 in support of the LGBT “community.”

If your priests and/or deacons wear violet vestments today or in the next few days, report them to the bishop. This is an abuse of the worst kind.

Of course, if your priest and/or deacon is wearing violet for a funeral, a mass for the dead or a mass of reparation and penance, that’s ok. Don’t report them.

Do you have an example where someone called for wearing purple? Did you see this in a newspaper or some other place?

What if the priest is celebrating a funeral Mass?

Perhaps you could be a little more specific about what the aim is. The Church teaches us not to hate homosexuals so in some circumstances in may be appropriate to support the LGBT community.

The colours of vestments are linked to the Church’s liturgical seasons, holydays, votive Masses, etc. so a priest shouldn’t wear vestments for any secular event like this anyway. I wouldn’t go running to my bishop first. In charity it would be more appropriate to bring the matter up with the priest first.
 
I had not heard this and believe it or not, I have on a violet pant suit today – I’d better change my clothes as I live in San Francisco and later on today plan on going downtown. Of course, on the way downtown I pass the Castro District and don’t want to give anyone false ideas.
 
My school put up flyers today to urge people to wear purple in memory of those people who are homosexual who committed suicide because of the gross mistreatment and harassment they received from others. I don’t see how making a statement that bullying someone to death for being gay is wrong could possibly be looked down on by a community that believes that we are to love people and not ridicule them to the point where they consider taking their own lives…

I don’t support bullying or harrassing anyone. But I don’t want to send a mixed message giving the impression that I support the gay and lesbian lifestyle either. And there is a dual purpose for wearing purple in the message that is being put out.

I agree. I’d like to support the anti-bullying part, but this is a two-edged sword.
 
Almost our whole staff is wearing purple today at the large high school I teach at. This has nothing to do with the so called “gay agenda”. We are wearing purple to bring notice to the bullying problem that many kids face whether they are overweight, socially awkward or gay.

For you, it may not have anything to do with the “gay agenda” but for all those who witness your school’s participation in this event may get the wrong message.
 
I totally forgot to wear purple today. But I have a purple scarf on my book bag since it’s my favorite color so I was ok.

It really is a sad thing that there have been a lot of bullying on gay kids and just a lot of violence towards them. It is sad that people have to suffer because of something like that. It really does make me angry and sad.

A church I went to recently prayed for “those who are harassed for being gay or for their sexual orientation.” I thought it was odd, but since they were praying for the harassed and not necessarily for gay rights I figured it was ok.

I may not agree with most Catholics on this issue, it’s nice to hear some responses in support of those who are being bullied and harassed just because of their orientation.

Wrong message about what - that we support ALL kids and believe that no one should be bullied? Thank the Lord that my child was never bullied and didn’t think that suicide was the only way to escape. Yep, all of you righteous followers of Jesus of Nazerath make sure you report all priests who wear purple today to their respective bishops because that is what our Lord would want. 🤷

I thought pink was the anti-bullying color. Or is it only in Canada?

There is a dual message being put out about the wearing of purple. I am against bullying but I do not support the gay lifestyle. Read the previous posts and links provided. I am against harrassment of any group or religion including that by the group ACT UP. " *Remember them? They invaded of St. Patrick’s Cathedral to disrupt prayer, trampled on the Holy Eucharist, insulted Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger when he was here for a conference, and yelled four letter words while exposing themselves to families and children leaving Mass at the Cathedral. The man they most detested was Cardinal John O’Connor, who, by the way, spent many evenings caring quietly for AIDS patients, and, when everyone else ran from them, opened units for them at the Terence Cardinal Cooke Health Care Center and St. Clare’s Hospital.
