I’ve got a strange kind of question…Here is the situation and I’d love to know if anyone has a solution for me…I love to visit thrift stores and browse through their selection of used books. I find a lot of books that look very interesting but sometimes it’s not always easy to see if the author is way off the wall heretical or has a more orthodox view of the Catholic faith. I’m not afraid to read protestant authors but with so many great books out there to read and only one lifetime to read them…well I don’t want to waste time with authors that are off the wall. Does anyone know of a Catholic web-site where you can do a quick search of the author to find out if they are a Yay or Nay or an in between? I usually try to come here and do a quick search of the author in the forums and see if anything comes up but this site is so rich in information it’s really too much while you are scanning the books right there in the store. Anyway I hope I’ve done a good job of explaining my question! Thanks in advance!

If you’re into fiction you might try The Cardinal. An early 1960s movie was made of it.

For something I’m sure you haven’t read yet,
try Empress Theresa on Amazon KINDLE.
You’ll love the author’s last name. :bigyikes:

There’s nothing systematic that I am aware of. There are so many Catholic authors from the centuries in so many languages, it would be hard to cover them all.

I find it more useful to look at the publisher and the endorsements for the book. An imprimatur is usually a good sign, too. After a while, it gets easier to gauge whether a book will be good or no so good.

Yah that’s what I figured. It would be neat though, in my mind I picture just a simple searchable list of great authors, read with caution authors and stay away from authors. A similar list could have the same for publishers…although that would be a bit more tricky. Anyway I guess I will have to create my own database for now. I’m thinking of this just simply for “Catholic-Religious” type material.
