SOFRINO is awesome but unless you read Russian, it’s kind of a loss…

I’d take a look at eBay. There are some amazing things on there from vendors here and overseas. There are some vendors who are also selling the same ikons as SOFRINO and there are some handpainted things as well as antiques. I’ve purchased a dozen or more ikons from eBay over the last few years. A few for myself, a couple as gifts for friends and 4-5 I donated to my church and the church my grandparents helped to found…

Does anyone know anything about that website that I posted?

Does anyone know of a good website to order quality Icons from?

Does anyone know anything about this website: Archangels Books
Are you from St. Louis? I’ve actually been to the store, I bought a censer and some incense, my prayer rope, and The Way of the Pilgrim/The Pilgrim Continues His Way from them . The owners are ROCOR. It’s a nice little store. They invited my wife and me to go to Solemn Vespers that night.

I also get stuff from Skete. www.skete.com

No I don’t live there. Just found the link. Seems like a nice store. The fact that their Orthodox probably doesn’t pertain to anything important.

Most places that sell Icons probably have Orthodox owners.

No I don’t care if it’s run by Catholics. I believe that although the Orthodox are heretics, they are only mildly in error, and I have no harm with buying Icons from them. I hope to get a St. Job Icon for my Confirmation, as I am choosing him for my patron saint at Confirmation. I might buy a Byzantine Cross as well. However it will just depend.

My wife bought a Crucifix Icon just like that at a Craft Fair and a purveyor of Russian Stuff was there.

I like it. I am going to go to the Ruthenian Catholic parish by my house and see if I want to become an Eastern Catholic. The only disadvantage would be that after my Confirmation, I would be bound to the Eastern Catholic fasting rules which are very strict. They are the same as the Orthodox Church I believe.

Yes, they are the same. Although I believe the Phillip’s Fast is mitigated in the Pittsburgh Metropolia.

And, you are not bound to follow any fasting rules that aren’t imposed on you by your Spiritual Father. You have to discuss these things with him. Mine did strongly encourage me to go vegan for Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent.

Honestly I probably will if I become Eastern Catholic. Did you also abstain from food during the first (what is it two?) days of Lent? Are you going to fast during the Dormition?

I did not abstain for the first few days. I am not officially Eastern so I still follow the Latin rules. Especially since I attend a NO church now. There isn’t a feasible way for me to attend an Eastern Church, they are all too far away.

The way Eastern Christians view the fast is different from the way Latin Christians view it. While the standard is high, it is not a sin not to keep the fast to the letter. One simply does one’s best. An analogy would be running – I can’t run the 26.2 miles of a full marathon. What I can do is start small, under the guidance of a coach (spiritual father), and eventually work my way up to a 5k and beyond, until I do get to the point where I can run the marathon. (Now if I just flat-out said “I don’t want to run and don’t believe I need to,” well, that’s another story entirely!)
