Looks like a polish Christopher West, to me… TOB is referenced. TOB was written by one of those Polish priests, too, you know. 😉

I suspect that if you have read this work, you are already enlightened. 👍

Can you post a link? Because the things that are coming up when I search those terms are not places I want to go… :o I did find the Yahoo news story, but there was no link to the website.

szansaspotkania.net/index.php?page=6873

this is what I found. I got the original link from the article referenced ( I suspect, anyway) that I found on a search of Divine Sex…
Boy, I don’t know . . . .would be very interested in others’ comments. I feel like I need to confess just *reading *this, let alone thinking of my wife or our relationship in these terms. So much focus on pleasure, doesn’t seem right somehow. (And yes, I’ve read West, and am not sure about him either.)

Agree that we should not place too much emphasis on pleasure but in my experience most Catholics are unaware of the limits they could go to.This website is for instruction to Catholic married couples. The link is "www.szansaspotkania.net " 👍

Although I was worried about clicking the link, the little I read appeared to be presented in a clinical spiritual nature as opposed to an errotic nature.

I don’t see anything here that seems out of step with JP II’s TOB discussion. Sex IS meant to be mutually pleasurable within the proper context.

Yes, I would agree that if one focuses on selfish pleasure, there is something wrong. But we are called to a higher level of intimacy and to include our relationship with God in the act. That is very different from a steamy, lustful relationship. And I understand that may be difficult to grasp at first. TOB is a NEW way of looking at ourselves and our relationship with God.

As most know I recommend West’s books. I find some of his talks over the top and personal refections hard to accept. I’m not saying he’s wrong. I just don’t follow the logic sometimes.

CW’s books have the blessing of the Church. So I don’t think they can be dismissed as radical. The basic concepts about sex and pleasure are that it should be mutual, from the heart, open to possibility of new life and in unity with the love of God. Some of these concepts are harder to accept and follow than others.

I don’t really get feeling like one needs to “confess” viewing that site… there was nothing I saw that even approached sinful. I suppose if one found oneself sexually aroused by how direct the site is, and continued to go back a read again, then that could be a near occasion of sin? I’m pretty sure you were joking, though, right? 🤷

I actually liked the site! After reading some of the other responses, I feel a little, I don’t know, wrong for liking it. I read the whole site, and thought it was very in line with TOB.

He was descriptive, true, but is that wrong? I think that he gave good, practical information that a lot of Catholics could really use. Also, in my reading of it anyway, the “pleasure” he focused on was always MUTUAL, self-giving, pleasure. Which I believe does please God. He made it clear what the Church teaches regarding what is permitted during sex and what is not.

And I thought the whole part about the woman’s body accepting and embracing the man’s body was beautiful and romantic and true. Now I feel a little… guilty or something for feeling that way!😊

See, that’s what happened to me, too. I’m almost as old as dirt, and I can tell you that what I read on that site – however much it may echo and reflect what some in today’s Church are teaching – would have been the very definition of the “unbridled passion” moral theologians in the 1960’s condemned and characterized as sinful. Or, maybe I’m just jealous that my Church didn’t affirm as a moral good this kind of marital relationship back when I was a newlywed – instead of the fear and shame that was in vogue “back in the day.”

Just to clarify, it was only AFTER I read here that there could be something…umm…less than Catholic about the site that I felt guilty! When I first read it and didn’t read some of the other responses, I felt fine.

I guess I don’t see what’s wrong with unbridled passion toward one’s spouse as long as that couple has a clear understanding of what sex was created as by God. I have tons of passion for my husband, but that doesn’t mean we would ever go against any of the Church’s teachings on sexuality. I think that real passion comes from understanding the Church’s teachings on sex. Am I alone in this?

I agree that there is nothing wrong with unbridled passion which is sometimes brought about consciously or unconsciously by the environment around us.It was St Paul who said to his disciples if you cannot control yourselves get married. If the passion is therefore gratified within the boundaries of the marital union I do not think it is sinful.

For starters, I do LOVE the fact that more people are exploring the spiritual side of marital sex. It’s refreshing and past due:thumbsup:

I don’t see anything wrong with the site, but it leaves a lot out, which is fine…I dunno, I’d kinda like to see more TOB stuff written from a woman’s point of view, because both this guy and CW talk a lot about how to ummm…not leave the woman out if you get my meaning…but honestly…what they describe sounds like guys who kinda don’t know what they are doing:shrug: 😊 or something.

All I’m sayin is…for anyone who is inexperienced in this area they might get some wrong ideas or preconceived notions about women and the pleasure aspect.

Bottom line, man and wife should both be concerned with the other first, and be willing to learn about each other and what makes them ‘tick’.😉

And for the unbridled passion thing…if not in the marriage bed then where? Actually TOB can be kinda lacking in the passion area I think…too mechanical sometimes, But like I said, it’s a male perspective, and men tend to be more mechanical and literal in thinking. I can say as a woman, without some passion, all the moves in the world amount to squat. Unbridled passion is where it’s at;)

Nothing wrong here at all. And you are not alone. There are some that don’t see these things as they are, but rather through the old perspective of “if it feels good it must be bad.”

The concepts prescribed here used to be only available through less than honorable means. And I think that is why some people see them as “dirty.” Most couples (and church leaders) could (or can) not consider the fact that pleasure from sex is actually the intention of God. Rather, they had been told for so long that the body was weak and faulty. Both the body and the spirit are good. This is a new concept, almost. And difficult for many to comprehend.

Excellent idea! I know Mary Beth Bonacci writes about TOB concepts but she is single. (I love her books by the way!)

Only part of TOB is about sex. But that, apparently, is what sells the best. There is lots of other TOB talks and books out there. Read on!

Actually JP II started his TOB work in the 50s. Of course it wasn’t well known even in the 60’s or 70’s. It’s hard to get accepted some places, even today. It is a ‘new’ concept.

I suspect that sex with your wife was based on proper love anyway. Not as much today given the promiscuous lifestyles many of us lead prior to marriage. We all have much to learn and I’m appreciative that TOB was formalized while I had an opportunity to still enjoy it. It’s so much better to love this way than what I knew before. I can’t imagine living without it. It’s more than the mechanics, of course. It has to do with one’s attitude.

I suspect that was the problem before. Many were/are unconvinced that such action won’t lead to lust. And of course any action that would lead to lust must be preemptively admonished.

I’m sorry it was late for you, too. And I pain for any that don’t get the “good news” about the value of the marital relationship. What a wonderful gift it is!
