Does anyone know of a good prayer for a couple on their wedding night?

Two come to mind - the first is St Francis of Assisi’s prayer (“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace…”)

The second is somewhere in the Book of Tobit, can’t be bothered looking it up, it’s the prayer Tobias and Sarah say on their wedding night.

Why not pray a decade of the rosary? Or maybe the whole thing, if you can wait that long. 😃

DH and I had the best of intentions to say a prayer before we hopped in the sack together. Our hormones got the best of us, though. :o

Well WE made it all the way through 😛 lol

Actually it was quite sweet…we had recieved a Papal Blessing as one of our marriage gifts and it was GORGEOUSLY framed, and when DH brought me home that night he had set it up leaning against our pillows and laid 2 rosarys on the end of the bed, all prepared for us. So the first thing we did when we walked in the door, still all dressed up, was pray the rosary, and it was all his idea! I kept thinking “Lord, this is the guy who claimed to hate organized religion 2 years ago!!! You rock!”

That’s beautiful! What a special memory and special blessing. 🙂

I don’t know about your wedding night but I pray this one Daily substituing my DW name for (my spouse). Why not pray this one over each other on your wedding night?

Lord Jesus,
grant that I and (my spouse) may have a true
and understanding love for each other.
Grant that we may both
be filled with faith and trust.
Give us the grace to live
with each other in peace and harmony.
May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses
and grow from each other’s strengths.
help us to forgive one another’s failings
and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness
and the spirit of placing the well-being
of one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together
grow and mature with each passing year.
Bring us both ever closer to You
through our love for each other.
Let our love grow to perfection.

Amen.

That’s beautiful. I think I may use that everyday. 🙂

Beautiful prayer, thanks for sharing. I too may use that.

As a wedding gift to me, DH had given me a beautiful custom made rosary. So of course we used it together on our wedding night!
We said the Joyful Mysteries…although I think the Luminous Mysteries might also be appropriate. (Baptism, Wedding at Cana, Proclamation of the Kingdom, Transfiguration & Institution of the Eucharist.)

My DH & I say this every night.

Peace,
Linda

I second reading Song of Songs… holy AND hot! 😃

My DH wears a ring on his right hand that I gave him for St. Nicholas’ Day a couple of years ago. It says in Latin, “I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine,” from the Song of Songs.

We also had a reading from that book in our wedding Mass. So I’m pretty attached to it. 😉
