If you back down on this, where will it end?
What will you do about baptisms, first communion, confirmation, etc?
What will happen if you raise your children Catholic and they one day marry in the church? Will you try to tell your child to have a wedding out of the church to accommodate your family’s objections?
How will you handle your family badgering you even harder about your faith once they see there is a chink in the armour? If they can pressure you into marrying out of the church, clearly your faith can’t be too strong, and they will try harder to win you back.
You and your fiancé are adults. You and your fiancé are Catholic. It’s time for you both to leave mother and father and hold fast to each other. Your husband deserves the wedding he wants, as do you. Frankly, if you aren’t ready to get married in the manner of YOUR choice (and consistent with Church law of course), then you aren’t ready for marriage at all.
