Wedding Question

My finance and I have found a church that we would like to get married in! The problem is, we would like to use the priest (who has known us for a long time) from another parish. We do not want to get married at the church with the priest we like, because it is a very VERY modern church (no kneelers!!) and we are very traditional. We only go to that church for daily mass…

My question… is this possible to do? Get married at one church, but have a priest come from another parish? If yes, how do I go about doing this? Which church do I need to belong to (for the required 6months)?

Yes, it’s possible.

If the churches are in the same diocese, that is easier.

You should contact the parish you want to be married in regarding what its guidelines are for non-parishioners using their facilities. They may not allow it at all, they may require a substantial fee, or they may allow it without such restrictions. It’s up to them, and you will have to contact them.

You should contact the priest you intend to witness the marriage regarding his schedule, whether he will be willing to marry you at another parish, and to schedule premarital preparation.

The six months guideline pertains to marriage preparation, it usually takes six months. There may be requirements individual parishes have for registering in a parish, contributing via envelopes, and for how long, etc, but that is separate from sacramental prep for marriage.
