Like, modems and routers and stuff? That would be practical.

Yes… And camping/sports/outdoor gear, barbecue stuff, tools, yard improvement and gardening supplies, smaller furniture items, office supplies and organizational stuff, Tupperware, small appliances, even mops, brooms, Comet cleanser nd sponges…

And you can actually register for gift cards, too, although that would be beyond my personal comfort zone, I have purchased that option when I was late getting to the registry and most items were already purchased.

I think people would prefer to give more durable items, but at least this couple was sure to use the items they got.

A lot of young couples would benefit from a subscription to a home improvement magazine or a how-to book or some such. I gave a copy of “Home Comforts,” the home reference book, to a cousin when she got married.

That’s it…Best Buy needs to have a registry. My husband and I would have gone nuts.

I remember doing my baby registry at Babys R Us…that had an attached Toys R Us.

We were about half-way done when my husband disappeared for about 20 mins. He came back with, I kid you not, a belt-fed, fully automatic nerf machine gun with ammo and his eyes lit up like that of an 8 year old on Christmas morning.

I actually felt bad when I told him “no.”

I misread the post and thought it was for the wedding registry! If toys were fair game, there would be a lot of wedding registries that included remote control helicopters, don’t you think?

I think Home Depot, Fry’s or Best Buy, all the phone stores, and toy stores ought to offer wedding registries! I mean, come on…

Home Depot does, I’m sure of it! Best Buy and many other stores have a “wish list” that you can leave open to the public.

Maybe people feel that remote control helicopters, like other items for the wedding night, are such personal items that the couple ought to be left to supply these for themselves?

I dunno…I don’t think a new born baby girl has much need for a belt-fed machine gun.
But, hey…I was a new mom, what did I know? I didn’t see it on the suggestion list they provided.

That was well over a year ago…and she is a big time daddy’s girl…she’ll probably be seriously impressed with one in another 6 months or so.

That thing was expensive…it was well over one hundred dollars! I dunno, if our financial situation improves beyond just making ends meet maybe santa will be good to him!

I didn’t have a registry either. I find that the way they work now is more like gimme lists. I had a list of some suggested items that we could use (maybe things we had but could use replacing). I had been living on my own for 15 years and he had been at home with his parents still, so not a lot coming from him. I did choose a silverware pattern and a dish pattern and good dish pattern that would coordinate with my discontinued good dishes for serving pieces. Other than that, it had some colour suggestions about how we planned to decorate (not that we’ve had the money for that yet anyways). I gave these lists to the mothers.

I know Amazon has a wish list that you can make, and to be very honest there’s NOTHING I haven’t been able to find at Amazon. I once looked for a french horn and found one

I have seen that people register for a honeymoon registry if they have all the things for the home . They can ask for the things which they needed at the time of the honeymoon they can also ask for honeymoon fund. People also go for down payment registries now a days.

I honestly think this whole thing about multiple fondue pots is a bit of a myth…or maybe it was a 70s thing.
Weren’t Fondue pots all the rage then?

Our guests went the artistic route big time…or we just got money.

Seriously, you can never have enough towels in your house. Or tupperware…lots and lots of tupperware!

I got married in the 70s and we didn’t get a single fondue pot…go figure lol!!!

Since OP asked for opinions, here is mine. If I didn’t want to register at a store, I wouldn’t. If anyone asked I would simply say “I didn’t want to register anywhere. Any gift we might get will be special to us because it is from a friend/family member.” Then I would gratefully acknowledge any gifts I received. If I didn’t want something I received, I’d tuck it away to re-gift at a later date or donate to charity.
