Theres no need to be like that, seriously, obviously youve nothing else to add to the conversation. If someone is more educated on a particular subject matter i dont see why they should be made fun of on a Catholic forum (sadly) when they try and tell others what they know.
You are no more educated than I am on this matter, you just have your view of this and I have mine…(which is totally ok) but please do not attempt to make your view the ONLY view or the ONLY right one (as some of us know that is not true)
you view all diamonds as evil and that simply is not the case…I do not appreciate being called materialistic or being told I support the Blood Diamond trade when in fact I know that I do not!
Now by all means educate folks on blood diamonds etc…but do it in a way that does not demean others or lumps people into groups that they are not part of!
Now really have a nice day!🙂

Actually i can pretty much guarantee that i do have more insight into this issue than most people, i have a degree in Middle East and African politics and a Masters in International Relations. Im not boasting, ive just learnt alot about this. There is only one set of facts, you may be of the opinion that you dont directly support the illegal trade and that is fine, i am saying that it is more complicated than just going to the jewelry store and asking the jeweler where the diamonds he stocks come from, thats all. The fact is that diamonds are a highly attractive commodity to the West, and alot of people die because of this trade. Now im really done talking about this, its late here and i have to get to bed.

I just wanted to add 2 cents about wedding rings in general. IMO, the man’s and woman’s should be the same. Design however the both of you want, but you are in the same marriage, and should have the same ring. Not just some other nice ring that matches her engagement ring and gets added to show she’s married and he has something different. It’s not just some piece of jewelry showing you are married, it should show you are married to each other. Just my two cents.

I am not even getting engaged yet, but I really love rose gold. Anyone have one? I hate how you only ever see it in tri-color things.

You have availed us of your vast knowledge and research into this subject. Now drop it already.

Why be rude for, honestly? Was there a need for this kind of contribution? Did it add anything to the subject matter? Why get petty for? Perhaps this is a subject i feel strongly about, who are you to tell me to drop it? I am simply stating the facts here, if you dont want to listen then you dont have to, but theres no need for your snide remarks and comments.

My mother has a rose gold one, its really beautiful and classic-it doesnt look like an engagement ring by our standards, its a solitaire oval ruby-the red and rose gold really complement each other. You are right, you only ever see it in tri coloured things which look terrible. Maybe getting one made is the option when you eventually do head down that road 😉

I agree with the wedding bands. I thought traditionally both were meant to be the same. My brother got married and he has a pretty plain wedding band by comparison to his wife, she got a matching one to her engagement ring, it just doesnt look right, i personally prefer wedding bands plain, they just look more holy for some reason in my eyes (hehehe). Whenever i see one encrusted in other jewels it sort of looks like a regular ring guys may buy, not sure whether they are married or just wearing it on their wedding finger.

I contributed because I think the way you phrased your opinion over and over was rude and unnecessary. There are ways to state your case without putting other posters down. Insisting that you are the only one with knowledge on any subject is not exactly the way to encourage pleasant discourse.

Actually I was not putting anyone down, if you read the posts then you’ll see that i was actually very nice, and i was the one that was being spoken to in a less than Catholic manner. If you notice my post at Jan 16, '07 11:34 pm i was actually trying to explain how the trade works and i got a highly sarcastic reply which continued on for the next few posts (with signs and eyes rolling and sarcasm). Not once was i putting anyone down or was rude in my responses to anyone.

I dont insist i am the only one with knowledge on the subject, by all means if someone can prove me wrong then i suggest they step in and say so, not from opinion but from actual fact. Yes i have more knowledge on the subject matter than most, so this is why i offer my opinion here, and it is very difficult to try and explain to others the complexities and different facets of a part legal part illegal trade. Saying “i dont buy or support conflict diamonds” is not going to convince me, because thats just not how it works, read the report i posted by Amnesty. This is what i was trying to explain to the poster, that it is not something that will go away because the trade of diamonds is so rife, as long as people seek diamons this horrible trade will continue, even if you personally are getting your diamonds from a legal (international standards) source. Look back at the posts, i was not the one who was irate and unnecessarily rude.

Guess you missed the two articles I linked to that also dealt with this topic… Diamondfacts.org
this website also has a good bit of info regarding Conflict Diamonds… un.org/peace/africa/Diamond.html
And I do recall stating to you that if you wanted to know my diamond buying practices you could PM (so this thread would not go off topic)…you chose not to do that…it was my choice not to spew facts out…why because that was not the topic of the thread but gave you the chance to find out what I did know and you did not evail yourself to that!
Nope all you did was dismiss me stating I knew nothing when in fact you have no idea what I do or do not know…and once again NOT ALL DIAMONDS are BLOOD DIAMONDS…and I do not PURCHASE blood diamonds!
IF you care to find out anymore you can PM me otherwise lets get back to the topic of the thread…WEDDING RINGS!

That is the most absurd and ridiculous comparison ive heard. Firstly, no i dont eat mexican food because i dont like it, secondly i dont live in the US, and even if i did how can you compare something that you can change to something that you cannot control? This is absolutely absurd.

I try to make my own clothes because they are cheaper and i dont buy anything thats made in China because usually this means junk or some designer is making a fortune by charging through the roof on shirts made in China which cost practically nothing, i try to buy local products because at least i know that theyre paying 14 dollars an hour to the person that makes it and not 2 dollars a day.

BUT this is besides the point. If you know that there is an illegal diamond trade that is literally killing thousands of people and turning children into soldiers then why on earth would you support it? So a ring can look nice on your finger? This is a simple and sad scenario where the rich take advantage of the poor through their stupidity and naivety. Sorry, but common sense says Jesus would not advocate anything of that nature, it is quite disgusting really. Sorry, but i, nor any decent moral person who is educated and has knowledge of how our world actually works, would think that this is a splendid idea. The world saddens me, just because its a hopeless situation doesnt mean that i should contribute to it.
I bet you eat tofu because they kill cows brutally, too.

😃 😃

Flippant remarks over, now be honest with yourself. You feel passionately about this issue. Your remarks are made without any loophole. They are absolute remarks. So do you follow through consistently in the rest of your life? Where do you live (country)? Do you choose not to support your government through taxes due to YOUR money being used to support things such as embryonic stem cell research, euthanasia, abortion and more?

Do you refuse to eat animals because companies kill them brutally?

Do you refuse to purchase food, clothes or other items from companies that support abortion? What about companies that outsource jobs? Or companies that profit from 3rd world countries, essentially profiting from starving slaves?

I really am interested in this. See, you want to protray a caring image on this thread. As if we are all murdering poor innocent people. So are you careful not to kill?

😃 :rotfl:

Firstly, as i have previously stated to another poster, there is absolutely no comparison between something you can change/avoid and something you cannot. I pay my taxes because it is illegal not to do so, i cant change where my government delegates its finances to, this is really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I buy free range hens and organic domestic meat because i refuse to eat beef and chickens with hormones. There are no companies here that support abortion, this is a practice that is happening only in the US, and yes, i flat out refuse to support Nestle because of their horrible track record with the third world (note the baby formula case and others).

Of course there may be some things i do or eat where i am misinformed about or simply unaware of but when i am aware that something has caused great pain to people i will flat out refuse to support it.

I am not the first person on this forum that has said that they didnt want to buy diamonds because of the immorality involved in it, there are many people in the world that understand that supporting the trade means supporting legitimate as well as non legitimate sources.

Finally, your little cartoon faces just show how immature you are, there is no need for these sarcastic and stupid animations, really. If you want to have an intelligent conversation then by all means do so, but dont do it with sarcasm and silly faces rolling around laughing, it does nothing for your credibility.

I sure do. 👍

Absolutely. 😃 Not to derail the thread any further, but do you? SInce you are asking?
To be entirely honest, I’m not as strict as I have been.

Used to be vegan to vegetarian and back and forth. But I’ve noticed a jump in my personal health due to adding beef back into my diet.

Now, I do forego the big companies out there, opting instead for a local, family-owned farm. We get a side of fresh beef once a year and freeze it.

You remind me of the very passionate and enthusiastic young adults I meet at college. They are very outspoken and sure of their cause, whatever that cause may be. And yet they go about their causes all the wrong ways, using illegal methods, appearing to be uninformed, acting out angrily, being rude and inconsiderate to others and ultimately not really having a clue.

I hope you are able to maintain that level of passion, but I pray more fervently that you are able to learn the proper etiquette in relaying information to others.

You may indeed have some good information and some good reasons for your argument. If you do, however, I doubt anyone on this thread picked it up.

Just because you think you are right doesn’t mean you can drag everyone else into the same frenzy. It’s a lesson in life. Persuasion, gentle speech and helpful hints do more to benefit others than accusing them of being stupid, lazy, murderous or “immature.”

By the way, are you in fact calling the creaters of this forum immature? They are the ones who gave us the smilies. 😃

And I do hope you know that all my posts are tongue in cheek? You have not presented an inkling of the required logical structure or demeanor for arguing. I wouldn’t dream of it.

👍 Good luck in your future endeavors. You may be on to something. Just remember that no one is a master.

Hi, your post made me smile, it really did. But i’ll tell you something, i would never ever act in an irrational manner or do anything illegal or stupid to get my point across, i think people that do that are never heard, and they are often looked at as loonies rather than intelligent people (note i am thinking students in dread locks marching and acting like hooligans and screaming). I may be passionate, yes, stupid, no.

I never called anyone lazy or stupid, simply because Jesus has said not to. I may have said that this was a stupid or ridiculous comparison or something to that effect, i would never say a person is stupid.

I am not calling the creators of this forum immature, when did i ever say that? Its not helpful that you assume things like this because its simply not true, yes i did say you were immature, and i stick by that, when someone is having a serious conversation with another person and that person is sending rolling faces laughing at their post yes i do think thats immature.

As for everything else, thankyou, i will take what you have said on board, and i do hope that i never lose the passion i have for life and for Christ, i dont suppose i will.

🙂
