Hello,

I need help. I am getting married in less than 3 1/2 months. Help needed with the wedding ring search. I would ask my fiance but she is so busy with all the other planning that I want to be able to do this for both of us. I want to narrow things down to a few good choices that way it will be easy for her and not a huge time consuming thing. I have started searching for wedding bands but am totally overwhelmed with different metals, sizes, types and prices.

I have seen yellow gold, white gold, silver, platinum, titanium, tungsten, and more typs of metals.

Here’s what we’re looking for: simplicity, durability and price!

We are 2 simple people with simple tastes (we like St. Francis) but we want durability and quality. So simplicity yet something that will last.

Can any of you point me in the right direction or give me a ring “tutorial” i.e. “this metal is good because xyz or this one is bad because xyz, etc”? Web links with pictures would be helpful too.

What prices are reasonable? I hope to spend less than $200 on each ring ($100 or less for each is preferable).

If there are any rings with Christian symbolism or Celtic Christian design that would be awesome too. If not, a simple silver colored band would work for me. She is into the silver colored (dont know if that is the right term, basically the metal color or NOT yellow gold color).

Thanks in advance for your help! God is good!
This might not meet your needs for cheap, but my DF and I went with a sway set for the engagement ring and the wedding ring at:
www.thecladdagh.com

I browsed the site and noticed this ring:
thecladdagh.com/product1173.htm

Be sure to check on eBay, too. Also, my DF was able to purchase my sway set in 18K white gold for $600 due to an out of stock problem and buying one with a ruby, then putting in his own diamond.

I purchased Df’s wedding band on ebay. It is a men’s claddagh celtic knot wedding ring. It was under $200, is very sturdy and made of white gold.

Maria, that ring is also gorgeous!

I am tucking away these ideas for future reference. I had no idea that it would cost (relatively) so little to have something that lovely custom made.

Thanks:)

we got the original ring off of ebay from under 500 its platinum and has diamonds of a fairly good quality…Its art deco from the 1930’s i believe and when we had appraised it was actually worth way more…

My husband got a solid white gold band on clearance from the ZALES outlet for under 100.00

The way my engagement ring is made a band would have never fit underneath of it so thats why we had to have a ring made to match**

My wife and I have the Cana rings from Leaflet Missal. The sterling silver is $58 (that’s us). The 14K is $495.
They have symbols of the Church around the band, which is about 3/16" wide. Here’s the link:

I bought our wedding rings (not her engagement ring) at James Avery. A gold band that did not cost that much.

They have a pretty decent selection

THanks for the links! They are GREATLY appreciated! I actually have a cross ring from James Avery that my littls sister bought me on Christmas. I have worn it ever since as a symbol of faith and chasity to my future bride (unknown at that time). Its a great ring and I dont think it cost her too much either!

I have been off for Lent so I’m just now getting on back on here. 🙂
Since you haven’t said in your post (or I missed it 😊 ). I’m going to throw some questions out there for you to think about.

Have you asked you fiancée what she would like in a wedding ring, as far as specifics? After all she is the one who is going to have to wear it. Also wedding rings can be paid out in installments if you want to go that route. That’s what we did with ours.

You say your fiancée is an artist. Would she like to design her own ring? I did this with mine. Also, her friend is a jeweler, would she be interested in making the rings for you? I had a friend that had a family member make the weddings rings for her and her dh. They did not live near by.

One thing I learned is that gem stones are cheaper than diamonds. I got one good quality diamond on my ring and the other 6 stones are gems (2 emeralds and 4 sapphires). Some gem stones are harder than others and will stand up to the test of time better. Diamonds come in many different shapes, does you fiancée have a preference? Does she even want a diamond or not? A good jeweler will be willing to walk you though the whole process and will gladly explain everything to you. My dh took me with him when he went to get our rings. While I was looking at the diamonds under a microscope the jeweler would show dh the prices. I would recommend taking her with you to pick out the rings. Nothing says she has to know the price or pay for it if you don’t want her to. My dh told me some of the prices after we left the jewelry shop. 😛
Bottom line I would ask her what she does want and what she does not want. Have her look at pics. That will really narrow your choices down for you and make your job of picking the ring that much easier.
Below is a pick of my ring. I told the jeweler what I wanted and they made it for me. I wanted something different than just a plain band or one with all diamonds. I wanted my ring to have some color to it. As far as designs go it’s really simple.

Due to my work, I have to watch what jewelry I wear. My wedding ring is a three diamond ring (I think they’re being marketed as anniversary rings). I don’t wear that to work. I have a simple 10K gold band from Walmart that I wear everyday, and can even work in it. The thing has taken a beating and still looks good. It cost us about $35. Just something to think about–if your fiance wants a nice wedding ring, get that, and then get a less expensive (and expendable) ring that she can wear all the time.
