Is a Catholic Wedding that took place in the Catholic Church by a Catholic priest without a needed dispensation still be recognized as a proper Catholic Wedding?
or the dispensation was asked for and recieved by the priest himself and that dispensation was not properly explained (or explained at all) to the couple. This happens ALL.THE.TIME. Someone I know invited an out-of-state priest to celebrate his wedding. The priest recieved the required faculities without my friend knowing and he didn’t realize it was a thing until the bachellor party. He had a horrible moment of panic but Father had taken care of it all.I’m not sure how this could occur.
Either the priest knew of the lack of dispensation and performed the wedding anyway, which is a problem, and would require explanation,
Or
The priest did not know that a dispensation was needed, and the couple deceived him, which then casts doubts upon the couple and their intentions and respect for the Sacraments.
Are you sure dispensation didn’t happen? Sometimes priests file the paperwork without the couple even knowing about it.Is a Catholic Wedding that took place in the Catholic Church by a Catholic priest without a needed dispensation still be recognized as a proper Catholic Wedding?
There was no dispensation in the marriage investigation folderThat’s valid.
The couple does not necessarily have bad intentions
Unfortunately, when it comes to things that need dispensations too often priests just do it themselves rather than explain the process. I live in a diocese in which parish is defined loosely and not simply by the town of residence. Mostly because in rural New England you may not have a parish in your town, or you may be much closer to St. Hickville’s parish than St. Podunk’s parish because the town of Podunk saddles a mountain. That’s valid.

That doesn’t mean it didn’t happen in some form or another. The priest himself would have to be consulted for the full truth. There was no dispensation in the marriage investigation folder
If the non-Catholic is baptized, as you indicate, then there wouldn’t be any dispensation paperwork in the folder because no dispensation is required. There was no dispensation in the marriage investigation folder
