Perhaps some of our resident Fathers could weigh in on this debate? I suspect they can offer better opinions than any of us.

@FrDavid96? @Don_Ruggero? What are your thoughts on weekly confession?

I do remember reading or hearing somewhere that Pope John Paul II recommended monthly confession as a general guideline. I can’t remember exactly how it was phrased.

What if the “thing I did” keeps bothering my mind, and I feel that confessing never helped me.

Then your belief is not strong enough and you need to pray hard to ask God to increase your faith in the truth of his promise. When you confess a sin and receive absolution from the priest, the sin is forgiven. Period. How you “feel” doesn’t matter.

SameerMiranda, TRUST in the unfathomable mercy of Christ; believe with all your heart that after confession, He has FORGIVEN you.

According to St. Faustina, Jesus said:

“Every time you go to confession, immerse yourself entirely in My mercy with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your soul. When you approach the confessional, KNOW this, that I MYSELF am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy.”

Nobody should trifle with this sacrament. As we confess, we should express deep sorrow for our sins and we must have a deep desire to cease committing those sins over and over again, and this desire must be acted upon and shown by our subsequent actions, so that we will have less and less sins to confess.

It all depends on the individual person. There’s no one-schedule-fits-all approach here. That applies especially to Confession because it’s very personal.
