Eating for Life is the best place for BFL recipes šŸ™‚

The whole family is going back on EFL come Monday morning!

Yoga is not OK, unless you divorce the philosophy from the physical exercise, which is difficult. Here’s are a few links that explain better than I can:

speroforum.com/site/article.asp?id=9525

There are so many types of exercises out there – we can choose to take care of our bodies without engaging in eastern-religious exercises that tell us ā€œweā€ are each divine and that’s it. Just because something is popular in society doesn’t mean it’s OK.

Perhaps someone who is very strong in their Catholic faith can do yoga without believing its teachings regarding the divine, but those without such a faith foundation may not be able to, thus it is best to stay away from it altogether, especially when there are so many other things available that are not questionable.
I am going to give into the fact that you know more about it. I just have used the pilates excerises to do strecthing at home when i can’t get to the gym. The tape i have has nothing on it but excerises and the lady really only talks about how long you must hold things, and to breath deeply. I have most of the moves memorized so i just do them while watching the TV.

Right now i am trying to learn how to get my body in shape for running. i have been over weight all my life. I was never able to do run in junior high or high school so i have set a goal to run the Houston-Half Marthon in January 2009. It gives me a year to learn how to run correctly. Hopeful through the process i will lose the last 20 lbs and change my life habits.

Wow, well I’m glad this thread will be a good thing, a source of support and encouragement on our journey to healthier (and thinner) bodies, not to mention learning new ways to reach our goals, thanks guys!!! I’m so glad I will find the support I need here and look forward to giving others the support they need. This is going to be fun!!!

I love that place, I got the Eating for Life recipe book, it has a lot of great recipes and they’re simple!!! The hardest thing for me has been eating six small meals a day, I used to skip meals like crazy:nope:, bad bad bad!!!

I am getting used to the whole challenge thing, but I can really see the benefits and how it helps you change the way you live and eat, it’s not a diet it’s a way of life. I am so proud of myself:thumbsup:, I haven’t had ANY fast food since I started and that in itself is a miracle:eek:!!! It’s just so easy to go through the drive-thru and bam there’s some food, this will also help my ds, he’ll know McDonald’s is a treat and not a staple;). He’ll also be used to homemade meals all the time, I’ve always cooked for him, but not for me, now the healthy meals will be for both of us. He also watches me exercise and tries to imitate me…that’s good cause he’ll understand that exercise is part of our daily living.

I can’t find anything bad about doing this, it’s just a matter of keeping it up even after the goals are reached!!!

I’m currently working on getting this pregnancy weight off. I gained 50-60 lbs. and hadn’t loss A POUND since the initial PP weightloss right after the birth. How frustrating! I started Atkins in June at about 172 lbs. and I’m now down to about 157. Not too bad, but I probably would have lost more if I hadn’t gotten off the Atkins track a couple times along the way.

Atkins is the only diet that has ever worked for me. I have a terrible problem with sugar cravings and Atkins completely eliminates my cravings for junk food (which makes it a lot easier to stick with it) and I have so much more energy. And of course, the immediate weightloss keeps me motivated. šŸ‘
I did atkins in 2003-2004 , loved it, lost 53 lbs, got preggers, gained it all back… for some odd reason, I can’t hack it now… when everyone else in my family eats normal lol!

Quick question, does anyone own a George Foreman Grill or something like it? I’m debating whether or not to buy one in order to grill chicken breasts, fish, etc. What do you all think, would it be worth it?

Is there an alternative to using one of these, I don’t have an outside grill, and it really won’t matter since it’s going to start getting very cold outside soon so that would be out of the question anyway. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

A good grill pan does the trick right on the stove šŸ‘

America’s Test Kitchens did a show on grill pans, they may have the info on the website.

Well, you do have to register to see it, so if you don’t want to register - they rated the Simply Calphalon Non Stick 13 Inch Round Grill Pan tops.

I love my george Foreman Grill. For me i can cook my meat and such with no extra oil and it’s fast. it keeps me from having to start up the stove when i just want to cook a chicken for my salad. i think they are pretty cheap right now. you can find one for less than $20.

I have one similar, and I love it. In fact, it is my second, because I have already worn my first one out from so much use.

I will be happy to join this thread after my baby comes in January. I expect to have 80+ pounds to lose as I was overweight before I got pregnant.

And we will be waiting with open arms:extrahappy: :grouphug: :hug3: !!!

Right after Thanksgiving last year I went vegetarian. Since then I’ve changed my eating habits drastically. No more candy (except on the rare occassion), no more soda and nothing with trans-fat. Most of these changes came about because of personal taste, not a desire to lose weight…but I’ve lost about 65 pounds since October of last year and still losing a couple pounds a week 😃

I like the food from a george foreman (particularly chicken breasts that have been marinated in crushed garlic, salt, olive oil, lemon juice and zest, and fresh rosemary, yummmmm) but not the cleanup! It takes forever!

I’ve been wanting to eat less meat since I’ve been getting older (haha, I won’t be 30 until next spring, but it feels old to me šŸ˜‰ but I find that I actually gain weight without it - I think because instead of eating a piece of grilled/baked/sauteed poultry and some veggies, I’m having pasta, cheese, and veggies. I like full fat dairy too much, and am one of those people who would rather go totally without than sub in the bland low fat stuff. I successfully gave up sugars completely for 3 months when faced with the alternative of Splenda/artificials, but still, not an ounce was lost  Luckily I don’t crave sweets, unless I’m on my period. Then I want an ocean of ice cream.

I also need to give up mayonnaise. It sounds stupid, but my sister says it’s probably half my calories right there. I never used to like it, but then I moved to Belgium, and oh my…the mayo is good beyond description, and they put it on EVERYTHING. Oddly, it doesn’t give a greasy/fatty feel like American stuff, but I can tell by the back of the jar it’s just as bad šŸ˜‰

Right now I’m trying to eat nibbly things through out the day, instead of my usual tea in the day, 1 big meal at night. I have to get my metabolism going again. Yesterday I had tea and plain activia yogurt for breakfast, snacked on celery until lunch, which was more tea and some oatmeal with honey and a little butter, snacked on an apple, and then had pasta with chicken and asparagus and cheese for dinner. Felt GREAT, very bright and healthy, until the pasta 😃

Now I’m tempted to do the same thing today, but skip dinner (hard when I’m cooking for DH and trying to get him to gain weight) but I know that’s bad :o

And nichjake - congrats on your success! But your post made me frustrated 😃 I’ve never drunk soda, or eaten fast foods, cookies, chips, processed, etc to begin with! I always wish I did drink soda, so I could give it up and see some progress šŸ˜‰

No. More. Mayo. Must be strong.

I want to drop down to 190 before getting pregnant; I am at 255. I don’t want to be this big (a size 24-26 jeans) and get pregnant only to gain MORE weight.

Lexee; we use a normal electric grill that looks like a GF rip-off. šŸ™‚ Teflon inside so easy non-stick surface. šŸ˜‰ We use it year 'round!

I found one (Hamilton Beach brand, I think) at a garage sale for $8. It works perfect! 😃

Heather, I’m with you. I’m at about 205, want to get down to at least 180 before getting pregnant again. I’d love to lose even more than that, but that would be a great start…because my maternity clothes from the first time might not even fit me right now anymore, and I’m not even pregnant! 😦

I definitely need to give up soda. I’ve been better, don’t have it as much, don’t buy it for at home, just get it when I’m out. But even that has been too much lately…I always give it up for Lent, and it’s so easy to do, but as soon as it’s not Lent, it’s like I can’t do it! I think I may tell myself it’s Lent year-round šŸ˜›

I have given up soda even the diet stuff because i noticed that the carbonation was making me gasses and uncomfortable. Honestly i have noticed that i don’t even like the taste but that i had come to just have it by me at all times to drink, like drinking water.

The best rule i have is that if i eat out i automatically split the meal into two. Then i am not tempted to eat the rest of the meal and over eat. It’s all about portion size.

Yeah, when I drink soda I don’t bother with the diet soda – I don’t like the taste and I’d rather have real sugar (which my body knows how to handle) than chemical-fake sugar! šŸ˜›

You’re so right – portion size is a big deal and it’s so hard to get used to eating the right amount instead of the normal amount that you’re served.

hook me in the loop. ive got 30 i want to lose but ill be happy with 20. maybe we can share food ideas, drinks, etc. and all pray for eachother. as far as yoga my husband and i too talked about that but like one reader, i also read it may be against our religion. i did read that in the catholic paper. but i wonder if we meditate and put Jesus as our spiritial guide if it would be okay; maybe we can find out this answer.

Excellent, Belle!! 😃

I am 255, want to get to 190 (what I was down to, when I got pg with Alex, and I was a size 16 then, as I’m 5’1" and big boned). Then I’d like to get down to even 150, but we’ll see what happens. My dad said if I lost 50 lbs by July next year he’d buy me and Alex a ticket to Buffalo to visit šŸ˜‰ šŸ™‚ I’d love to do that!!!

I’m 5’3", so I know what you feel like :o I found some pictures of me from college (graduated in 2001) where I looked great, and taped them to the fridge. I think I need to make copies and tape them to every surface of the house, car, office, etc. šŸ˜› 😃

Buffalo huh? I’m in CNY – small world. šŸ˜‰
