Weird EWTN book in my mail; What the...?

Yesterday I opened up my mail to find a white shipping envelope containing a typewritten (obviously mass produced) letter and a book. The letter explained the necessity of spreading the “truth” in the current confusing age…etc. The book was entitled “EWTN: A Network Gone Wrong” with a rather disturbing picture of a faceless nun on the cover. My “conspiracy wacko” flag went up and the book went right into the recycling bin. The letter was dated from the past week, so the recent passing of Mother Angelica would have had no impact on this being mailed. I think I did the right thing getting rid of this thing. I see nothing wrong with EWTN (I listen daily) and I highly doubt this book was published by Ignatius or any reputable Catholic press. Has anyone else ever found this book in their mail? I found it odd because I have never subscribed to any mailing lists or anything of the sort that would promote those types of things.
 
This book was published in 2006 and is available on amazon for less than $2.00. Someone decided to take it upon themselves to spread the word. Two words: Conspiracy theory. Here is the amazon link. Read the reviews to see what you missed out on.

The biggest warning flag is that the majority of the books listed under “Customers who bought this item also bought:” are mainly by Fr. Nicholas Gruner. :rolleyes:
 
wow! I have not heard of this book ever! it sounds like someone thought you needed to read it. glad you got rid of it!
 
I have seen a website like that, didn’t know there was a book

Toss it in the trash.
 
I wonder how the heck I ended up on the mailing list for that thing. I wish people would randomly mail me books I actually want to read 🙂

I hadn’t even heard that she died. I guess I’m more out of the loop than I thought.

I used to get unsolicited booklets from Fr. Gruner’s organization. One that practically elevated Mary to being a goddess ticked me off enough to respond. My letter to them must have been effective - haven’t heard from them since. 😉
 
Weird, I’d say, as the book is not being mass produced. Only used copes are available.
