Weird stuff you hear as a Catholic?

yes I have heard all of this and more and just recently from a very old friend. Everything in Latin so we won’t know what is being said, the chaining of the bible, worshipping Mary and statues blah blah—when I asker her that she really could not possibly believe that hokey stuff she said this is what other Catholics have told her and things she has witnessed for herself.

I have known her for 40+ years and I have just had to kick that dust from my feet.

A “Pope” may well be an antichrist some time. Every time one is proclaimed, we have to make up our own minds about them.

Same as leaders in any other church.
 
There was an episode of Ancient Aliens which discusses how the Vatican suppressed evidence on the existence of aliens.

The scary thing is, according to scripture, the AC or the false prophet, will come from within the church, and be so cunning, it will fool the majority the people…just look at all the back and forth right now, about our current Pope…of course we believe they are all wrong, but eventually, with some Pope, they are probably going to be right, and we will all wonder how we were tricked!!

That show is rubbish, all it is, is the enemy trying to plant the seed in peoples minds with a smoke and mirrors presentation, that our ‘real creators’ are something other than the biblical God, unfortunately, he is doing a good job, as this belief is steadily rising among people.

I think eventually this will culminate into some kind of fake ‘visitation’ on a massive scale, it will be the biggest thing in the history of the world and will be covered extensively, our new friends will be shown as peaceful, wanting to help us, coming at the right time, etc, everyone will be fooled.

I think it may have been a mistake from voice to text. I could be wrong but that happens to me quite often so I am giving the benefit of the doubt

This might have to be “Exhibit A” (though I am pretty sure “tire fly” was supposed to be “directly”)
 
I’ve been told (all from the same person):

-Constantine was the first Pope

-no way Peter could have ever been Pope because he never, ever went to Rome

-that Catholics do not believe that Jesus was both God and Man

-I was chastised when this person heard the Pope refer to Latin as a “holy language”
(Quote: “I mean, I could see Hebrew or Aramaic, but not Latin…”)

-That the early Church fathers were “all wrong”!
“You mean all of them? About everything?” I asked him
“YES”

-that the Mass is a spectator sport

-that he had been to Mass at least 17 (yes, he counted) times in his life and never once has he ever heard anything scriptural during a Mass. Not ever.

I could go on, I have a treasure trove of things I got from this person. The above is just what I remember off the top of my head. I just have to dig up my emails. Let me know if you want to hear more…

I’ll share a funny story. This didn’t actually happen to me but rather was told to me by my college roommate many years ago.

He grew up in the poverty-stricken coal fields of eastern Kentucky and his family, all old-school Baptists, had been there for many generations. (Thankfully, he was a little more progressive thinking and we got along pretty good religious-wise).

It seems that in the late 1940s, an order of missionary nuns moved into the area and set up a medical clinic for the impoverished people of the region. The clinic was open to anyone and they paid what they could, or sometimes didn’t need to pay at all if they couldn’t afford it.

Needless to say, all these “Papist Nuns” moving into the area raised both eyebrows and suspicions, but after a while the convenience have having easy access to health care began to outweigh their worries, and the good sisters became welcome members of the community.

But as the story goes, one of the older and well-respected pastors in the area was asked how he felt about the nuns and their clinic. His response was he was fine with having the medical care available but warned them “Just be careful. If you take your child there, don’t you turn your back on him for one second or those nuns will make him a Catholic before you can blink your eye!”

Chances are good that they were not nuns but sisters.

Almost all non-Catholics, and even many faithful Catholics, don’t know the difference between sisters and nuns. It’s perpetuated by mainstream media reports and even “the Nuns[sic] on the Bus” and so forth.

Here’s the rule of thumb: if you see a woman religious doing something out in public, ten to one she is a sister. If you go to a monastery and see cloistered women religious praying there, ten to one they are nuns.

An additional word, about “orders”

All orders are religious institutes, but not all religious institutes are orders. The last order to be allowed by the Catholic Church was the Society of Jesus founded in 1540. Anything founded since then is a different type of institute and not an order.
 
My husband once met someone who believed that the Vatican had its own air force.
 
Just remembered something I read somewhere. Apparently, in the Vatican there is this database of every protestant in the world. It will be used in the future when the Church starts “persecuting” protestants again. Good job I converted, I’ll be safe now. :rolleyes:

1.That Vatican II was a plot by the Jews and Freemasonry to destroy the Church from within;
  1. That The Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary are satanic 🤷
  2. That every pope since John XXIII has been (somehow, simultaneously) a Communist, Mason, Jew, Protestant, Modernist, or Muslim.
    (One has said Pius XII was an anti pope because he allowed for Catholics to believe in evolution)
  3. That everyone who doesn’t attend the Latin Mass isn’t a “real” Catholic, and that everything they believe is a smoke-and-mirrors anti-Church
  4. That democracy is inherently evil, and that we must live under a Catholic absolute monarchy (the SSPX are dogged fans of Vichy France)
  5. That women must never have any position of authority ever (in 2008 one SSPX high school in Kansas refused to play in a basketball game with a referee who was a woman).

With regards to number 4 yes because we all know that the last supper was done completely in latin
