Thank you for this invitation, Mannyfit. However, I’m currently wondering whether I should join in a forum for “non-Catholics.” I am an Orthodox Catholic and I am offended that the moderators on this Forum have decided that legitimate Orthodox concerns with the Roman Catholic Church rank alongside those of Protestants and even non-Christians. The leaders on this site claim allegiance to the Pope of Rome, but their action of using the strong arm of moderation to ensure that a special forum for us to address our concerns doesn’t exist, doesn’t imitate the actions of recent Popes who have made it a point to claim that the Orthodoxy is the “sister Church” to Catholicism. This obvious chasm between Papal example and the actions of the leaders of this forum leaves me confused and hurt.

God bless,

Adam
We can only offering our suffering to Christ. Bearing your cross is truly upon your shoulders and your brothers and sisters.

As a Catholic, I even disagree with the reason behind for the closure of ECF. I think the conflict there is common in the other forums of the CAF.

All we can do is make do what we have, Adam.

The conflict in the EC was lesser than what you will find between SSPX, Sedes and some Traditionalists on the Trad. Forum.

Hello,

Bummer, my thread got moved to the Apologetics Forum. I wanted to discuss with the Orthodox, not Catholic Apologists (who already believe in the Papacy).

Is it just me, or is this adjustment period painful.

I agree, we should reinstate the EO forum as well as keep the EC forum. It just feels weird for the Holy Orthodox Church to be associated with other non-Catholic religions like Hinduism and Islam. It just isn’t right. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fr. Ambrose mounts some kind of resistence!😃

I would hope that those Christians lacking any Apostolic Succession would respect them as much as Catholic Church.
What about Roman Catholics- should they not respect them as much as “Catholic Church” (quotes used because Orthodox are as much “Catholic” as so-called Roman Catholics.)
It is frankly a disgrace that Catholic Answers has decided to relegate Orthodox Christians to the “Non-Catholic Religions” forum. What a huge step backwards for dialogue towards reunion, at least on Catholic Answers.
If I were Orthodox (presently I’m not) I wouldn’t deign to participate under these conditions.
Shame and disgrace on all responsible at Catholic Answers. Joe

I have to say that I’m surprised by this. I hope that maybe another thread type can be merged or something. It really doesn’t seem fair to put Orthodox Christians in the non-Catholic forum. Orthodox and Catholicism have a common origin.

I have to say my interest in Eastern Christian has lead me to support those who are Apostolic but not in Communion with Rome. I respect them for keeping their Traditions and being Orthodox in their belief.

You probably know I have discernment to become a priest and also the discerning to consider switching my Rite from Latin to Eastern Rite…
I do wish that I can join the EO mass, take a communion, but still in unity with the Pope, and the same thing to them w.r.t their Patriarch

You might tag every thread title with a distinguishing word. Then the search function can be used to find all the threads of interest without wading through the others.

The search requires 4 letters or more, so you could do EOOO for Eastern Orthodox/Oriental Orthodox. There wouldn’t be a reason for that letter combination to show up elsewhere.

I’ve posted on Apologetics and Non Catholic Religions before, and will continue to do so.

As my post number shows, I’ve yet to learn the virtue of silence.

My posting will fall silent on ECath Forum.

I liked that there was a separate forum because at least in some ways we were talking in the same universe. No offense Evangelicals, Mormons, Muslims, JWs, etc…, but no matter how much we and the Latins disagree on the episcopacy, whether transubstaniation is a valid description, or the authority of Rome, at least we have an episcopacy, beliefe in the Real Presence and an idea of authority to argue over.

I would like to welcome Eastern Orthodox Christians since their main forum Eastern Christianity was closed but made available in the Archives.

I would hope that those Christians lacking any Apostolic Succession would respect them as much as Catholic Church. These two Churches have its origins with the Apostles and they are ancient.

I am willing to protect our Eastern Orthodox brothers and sisters, (as if they were my own) if their beliefs and liturgy is distorted in everyway.
Thanks for the welcome mat.

Matthew 10:42.

And more important than believing in the Real Presence, Christ IS present in your churches but somehow you guys belong in this forum? Seriously I don’t understand at all why they shut down the old forum and now you guys have to post here with Wiccans and Muslims but either way I’d like to welcome you as well to this section of CAF. Please don’t abandon this forum…

I’d just say the we need to tread lightly tonight regarding the closing of the forum. I hope that I can keep up with all my buddies from that original forum.

I really felt like I was getting closer to my Catholic Church by conversing with those folks on this site. I enjoyed the RCC EO discussion very much.

This whole thing has been disheartening.

I honestly don’t think that CAF will continue on with this silly error on their part.
It would be quite foolish to lose many of the Orthodox posters… and over what??

The fact is that we get contentious because we all feel very strongly about the common origins that we have. Nobody else shares this as we do.

I fairly certain that they could find a moderator to moderate a more contentious crowd if they actually looked. Instead, they choose to upset people who have devoted hundreds, and some… thousands of hours to this forum over the years… and worse yet insult us by calling us “non-catholics”. Or force us to being labled non-catholic for the purposes of the forum. It is a darn shame that they obviously didn’t think it through.

Maybe this move will have the unintended consequence of causing us to see more of our similarities instead of focusing on our differences.

I was thinking the same thing when viewing the thread. May we be drawn to further dialogue in Truth, and may we together be a light in the darkness, shining the apostolic faith!

We can only hope and pray that will happen. I know I’ll be praying for unity even more than ever.

I do hope that all of the Orthodox members will continue to post here, as I found the discussion on the previous forum to be challenging and ultimately very profitable for me. Through these discussions, my Western brain has been forced to wrestle with the existence of a long standing and in some ways quite different Eastern way of understanding things, whereas previously I was only dimly aware that the Eastern Churches existed at all!

These things that you believe – I expect you to faithfully proclaim them in love, because we all need people to be witnesses to the truth. In particular, I want to know and better understand those places where Orthodoxy and Catholicism diverge. If I cannot discuss these things with you who are Orthodox, how will I learn these things? So, please, stay, even if it isn’t the ideal circumstances!! Don’t let other people’s opinions and labels deter you from speaking out what you believe to be the truth. Jesus endured far worse scorn, yet he did not let that prevent him from proclaiming the truth. If you feel weak and confused, ask Him to give you his comfort and strength, for he is more than able to meet all your needs, especially when it involves being adquately equipped for serving Him.

This may be labeled as the “Non-Catholic” forum, but that does not matter to me, because I will continue to post and read here so long as all of you are here.

For my part, if I create any new threads, I will put the word “Orthodox” somewhere in the title, so that it will be easier to see in the list. I think that if everyone does something similar to that, scanning through the list to find relevant discussions will not be too difficult.
