Welcoming Eastern Orthodox Christians

For my part, if I create any new threads, I will put the word “Orthodox” somewhere in the title, so that it will be easier to see in the list. I think that if everyone does something similar to that, scanning through the list to find relevant discussions will not be too difficult.

Others have suggested “EOOO” in the title. I think it’s better as it is more specific than “Orthodox” which could refer to the orthodox practices of any religion, not specifically to Eastern/Oriental Orthodoxy.

Thanks for reminding me of that – I had seen that suggestion, but promptly forgot about it again when I wrote my post.

I do hope that all of the Orthodox members will continue to post here, as I found the discussion on the previous forum to be challenging and ultimately very profitable for me. Through these discussions, my Western brain has been forced to wrestle with the existence of a long standing and in some ways quite different Eastern way of understanding things, whereas previously I was only dimly aware that the Eastern Churches existed at all!

These things that you believe – I expect you to faithfully proclaim them in love, because we all need people to be witnesses to the truth. In particular, I want to know and better understand those places where Orthodoxy and Catholicism diverge. If I cannot discuss these things with you who are Orthodox, how will I learn these things? So, please, stay, even if it isn’t the ideal circumstances!! Don’t let other people’s opinions and labels deter you from speaking out what you believe to be the truth. Jesus endured far worse scorn, yet he did not let that prevent him from proclaiming the truth. If you feel weak and confused, ask Him to give you his comfort and strength, for he is more than able to meet all your needs, especially when it involves being adquately equipped for serving Him.

This may be labeled as the “Non-Catholic” forum, but that does not matter to me, because I will continue to post and read here so long as all of you are here.

I appreciate you efforts, but on the same token it is rather ridic. that we’ll have to scan the headlines for the word orthodox in order to find a potential discussion.

It’s simply a moronic move. Nevertheless, I truly appreciate your comments.

I was totally shocked by the boot we received earlier today. I was starting to get some really good answers - I would have printed them out had I any idea Theresa was going to delete everything.

If anyone has Early Church Father quotes which prove the current Catholic view of Papal Supremacy (rather than Primacy) please let me know as I’m continuing (or will at least attempt to) to research this.

It is the least I can do. I think Peter connection with St. Andrew brings some hope in Christian unity… I know there are disagreements between CC and EO but we much more in communion. Latins like to define things, EO like to keep them mysteries…

If anyone knows where Fr Ambrose went, I kindly ask him to give us a notice here, if moderators would allow it. I looked orthodoxchristianity.net but he wasn’t there.

Finally, Eastern Christianity forum was very informative and I did learn much about theology and history both of RCC and of my own Church. I’m affraid hardly will another such a place be established. But I do understand the reasons of site owner. Now, next time you ask us about union, imagine what would it look like if we were accepted as equal.

It was informative especially when the issue of dialogue of between CC and EO in Italy.

Don’t you think thats a bit slanted?

I am just remember all the times I was told there could never be unity until I renounced my beliefs and repent of the errors of my Church or otherwise belittled, scoffed and yelled at and told my Hope was me living in “Fantasy Land” and believing in my misconceived innovations. Though I maintained Hope and still do.

As I see it, this change isn’t a set back for that Hope but a set back for the accuser. The fact is we find no obstacle in unity with the Eastern Catholics or Orthodox for that matter. Its the Orthodox who find obstacle with us.
