Since the trend seems to be for wearing really simple vestments/choir dress, I thought I would start this thread for posting pictures of POD clerics dressed in decent vestments, choir dress or academic dress. Extra points are given for:

-Bishops in full pontificals
-Super tall and curved mitres…
-Pious postures such as kissing the ring
-Birettas
-Rarely seen choir dress like a cappa magna
-Rarely seen liturgical garb (no, not the chasuble 😃 something like the papal fanon)

👍

Most. Rev. Robert Vasa, Bishop of Baker, Oregon. His Grace is wearing a modified form the the choir dress that correctly includes a wonderful lace rochet (as opposed to the incorrectly worn surplice often worn by prelates), a pectoral cross on the green-and-gold cord proper to bishops (again as opposed ot the sometimes incorrectly worn chain), a choir cassock, zuchetto, mozetta and a biretta. And dont miss the ring.

For priests and seminarians, you can’t beat Polish Cassocks, in my opinion.

Love it. The priests who work with our Bishop wear these. Awesome. Wish all our priests would.

I love those cassocks with the really wide cincture, and the rosaries are very nice too. (I am a big fan of rosaries worn on the left hip, rememering of course, they need to be used as well) sweet stuff.

Can someone explain to me why there is such an obsession with the dress of clerics?

In some ways, its actually fun to know about things like Papal fashion. Some priests like to wear really nice vestments as this shows respect to God and the Church. Some vestments in the US are cheap, and thus they are seen as an indication to a priest’s level of devotion and piety.Plus, it’s just cool to look at cool vestments on Popes and the like. 😃
