Living up to my signiture, y’all. Got my spork in one hand and my gumdrops in another.

I spoke in this forum before, briefly, about my friend, who knows next to zilch about religion. I mean, like, seriously. Not a drop of Christian education in this girls whole entire LIFE. She’s a very anxious and fearful girl when it comes to religion, and living with her fanatically evangelical grandmother and her constant stream of televagelists, nuclear war, 2012 and hell, who wouldn’t be? She’s terrorfied that she’s going to hell, because she just doesn’t understand.

Anyway, my friend loves God, I KNOW she does. The wy she longs for him is obvious. And I feel SO much of her fears could be calmed by KNOWING God through his church. Heck, at this point, I’d be happy with her trying ANY church, but of course I desire her to try the Catholic church.

But see, evangelizing my friend has been…difficult, to say the least. She claims to be protestant, but knows nothing about being Protestant, and nothing about being Catholic, so she has no clue what she’s “protesting”. She just likes not having to go through all the bells and whistles. But ANYway, SO many of her beliefs about salvation, God, and the world coincide with Catholic teachings, that I feel she could well find Home here.

But she refuses to talk about religion. She hates talking about and learning religion because it’s boring. But…I just found my spork.

One way we pass the time together, a LOT of time, is roleplaying. For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s like Let’s Pretend, like putting on a play, making up the story as you go. The way we play is verbal only, no game pieces or rules or acting. We use our favorite fictional characters and characters of our own to create worlds and stories, adventures, comedies, romances, scary stories, you name it. Been keeping up the same continuty for 3 years.

ANYway, just recently, we decided one of our new charactrers would be Catholic. A devout, practicing Catholic woman. Of course, playing a Catholic character requires knowledge of the church. When she plays this character, she lets me take over whenever she has to say or do something “churchy”, and my friend’s reactions have been really positive. She keeps pausing the story to ask me more about something the character has said, and is asking questions about the faith through HER characters, and seems to be interested in what I’m telling her even when we aren’t playing. She’s learned and asked more about the Catholic faith in the last week than in the 4 years we’ve been friends.

I asked God for a way to make her listen, and now I’ve got it! I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch, but I’m hoping I can keep giving her little breadcrumbs of knowledge.

To compensate for this LONG post, share any creative or surprising evangelization stories with me?

As a fairly recent “re-vert” I’m afraid I don’t really have any good stories to share such as yours, but I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed hearing your testimony.
God does work in many wonderful ways, does he not??

Peace
James
