This is the one I vividly remember plus it’s true! 😂

Very true, though I think it was still very powerful. I think it’s the music that really sells it for me.
Yeah, that’s some awesome music for a PSA. Strangely, I cannot find anything online about the music specifically, like who wrote it, who performed it etc.

I found it interesting that Iron Eyes Cody, the Italian-American actor who claimed to be Native American, was actually married for over 40 years to a bona fide Native American woman who was a prominent archaeologist. They also adopted two Native American children and were active in opening a center for Native Americans in Los Angeles.

I mean the guy from the, “ I learned it from watching you!” PSA. I always thought he didn’t look the type to be a stoner. He looked more like a three martini lunch guy.
That was during the time when a lot of yuppies who used pot and coke had young kids. I always got a Joel Steinberg vibe from the dad in that PSA - the Lisa Steinberg murder happened in 1987, the same year the PSA came out.

Sorry. PSAs can be a nostalgia thing for a lot of people. That’s why i brought it up again. My apologies.

Ah yes, the Crying Italian who pretended to be an Indian.

Another one that was powerful was the Yul Brenner anti-smoking PSA:
Oh yeah, they were showing Yul’s anti-smoking PSA in Australia when I was a child - powerful indeed.

An early AIDS PSA from Australia - controversial at the time but quite effective.

This reminded me of an other ad from the Italian Department of Public Health from 1990 to prevent the spreading of HIV. As you can see the topic is the same but there is a much lighter italian style approach… 😅

Oh man, that is lodged somewhere in my dusty memory banks. Especially that jazzy little theme music in the background, which I realize as an adult was obviously targeted at men who came of age in the 50s and listened to cool jazz, who would have been daddies of young children in the 60s.

There’s one I can’t find:
A teenager party. He sees her from across the crowded room. She sees him. They exchange glances. It looks like it’s going to happen. He starts moving through the crowd, his eyes never leaving hers.
She lights up a ciggie.
His countenance drops, he turns away.
She looks heartbroken.

Oh man, this takes me back. These were on ABC. There was one on how to make a Wagon Wheel. Then there was one about the different types of foods with conveyor belts in your stomach. At the same time they also had PSAs called the Bod Squad. The only one of those I remember is “Don’t drown your food / In ketchup or mustard or goo”
