I’ve had vehicles, homes, and storage buildings burglarized over the years. It is indeed, a sick-to-your-stomach feeling of violation.

I did have tires slashed once, but whoever did it made the entire block. Nothing as meticulous as the OP.
 
Wow. A criminal with OCD. That’s actually pretty funny, in a twisted sort of way.

After checking with a couple of neighbors, it seems I was the only one hit.

Oh well. No big deal actually. I am not upset about this nor do I feel violated. It is just one of those thing where I can only shake my head and sigh.

My mother, on the other hand, is a bit freaked out. (Many of you may recall that my elderly parents moved in with me last year and my father passed away shortly thereafter. My mother also lost most of her eyesight due to macular degeneration.) She asked me review with her how the alarm system works. Today, as I was getting ready to leave, she said she was going to leaver her stereo turned up a little louder than usual and leave in on when she leaves. She is really concerned about door being unlocked and so on. My mother does not frighten easily, but she is really afraid right now.

I am sure she will get over it soon, but this certainly has thrown her for a loop.
 
Wow rpp… I am so sorry you went through this. I had my car broken into once and they stole my cassette tapes… then they read the titles and threw them down on the ground outside my garage…hahaha… they hated Jesus Christ Superstar music!!!
 
UPDATE:

It was my next door neighbor. The police told me that when they went to her door, she “bragged” about doing it and explained how she did it. That was yesterday. The policeman then cited her for vandalism and destruction of property worth more than $150. It is possible she may be charged with a felony, something like “reckless endangerment” as my car may have had a blowout, causing an accident, which is a pretty serious charge.

She used 2 strips of wide masking tape , about 2 feet long. She put the head of the screws on the sticky side, 18 screws on each strip. Late at night, she just walked over to my car and put the strips behind the front and rear tires on the passenger side. When I backed out the next morning, I drove right over the screws and they all went straight in and were embedded in my tire. Since the masking tape is paper, the tape was shredded very quickly, leaving only the screws.

Her motive? Well, it seems that she has repeatedly left her vehicles parked on the street in front of my mailbox and the mailbox of another neighbor. This blocked access for the letter-carrier. The post office complained to the police and she received three warnings within a 90 day period. Then, a few days before the vandalism, she received a ticket for again blocking access to the mailboxes. She assumed it was me who called the police and sought retribution. It was in fact the letter-carrier who complained.

I should add that this woman is emotionally disturbed. And that she does indeed have OCD. I had a run in with her about 9 years ago that resulted in a long drawnout lawsuit because a tree on her property was destroying my driveway, broke my water line and endangered my gas line. The 80’ tall tree is right just on her side of the property line and I was unable to cut the roots as the tree might fall. She refused to cut down the tree. This led to a long legal battle that resulted in the roots getting cut, me getting my driveway fixed, an indemnification on her deed, her insurance company canceling coverage as the lawsuit and indemnification put her into a high risk category, her mortgage company threatening to call in the loan if she did not homeowner’s insurance and she now pays 5 times the insurance rate than she did pre-lawsuit and this whole thing apparently somehow destroyed her credit rating.

Now the last bit about her insurance and credit rating I did not know until the police officer came to talk to me yesterday. Apparently she just babbled on and on about all sorts imagined evils and such. The police officer and I agreed that in the unlikely event that the prosecutor decides to press serious charges, the best result would be court ordered psychiatric treatment. As this is the first bit of vandalism I am aware she has committed, I doubt that she will be charged with a crime. The citations, and accompanying fine, will probably be her only punishment

WOW!!! :eek: I would be worried about living next to someone like that. Do you think she finally learned her lesson or do you think she’s going to try to get pay-back again? Do you have a fence between you?

Actually, a funny scene of Wiley Coyote just popped into my head of him chasing the roadrunner. Remember how he would frequently try to pry a big rock loose to smash the roadrunner but the rock would always fall the wrong way and land on him instead? 😃
 
Ohhh Myyyyyy!!! That is really bizarre! I am sorry your neighbor did this to you. Are you getting reimbursed for your tires?

The tires were covered by the tire warranty so there is nothing to reimburse as I had no out of pocket costs.

But yeah, she is a pretty weird lady. This is the first time she has ever vandalized my property. I am not worried, but if it happens again, since there is already a police report, I think the penalty will be pretty stiff. If criminal courts do not take care of it, I will ensure that the civil authorities and her insurance company knows she is engaging in vandalism. If she loses her homeowners insurance (again) because of willful conduct, she will probably not be able to get insurance again. That will create a difficulties with her mortgage company which requires she carry insurance.

I am patient and forgiving, and I am not a vengeful person. Yet I think it is reasonable for me to protect my safety, my mother’s safety and my property.
 
18 screws per tire? 3 time 6 is eighteen. 666. That explains it. Might want to get your car exorcised. Or perhaps the neighbor.

On another note, it was wrong of the policeofficer to discuss her credit rating with you. That is personal info, and he shouldn’t have discussed that…there are credit confidentiality laws that protect us all. And he really shouldn’t be blabbing about people’s credit ratings–even vaguely. Other than that–I hope that nothing like this happens again in your neighborhood.:o

The reason the police officer mentioned it was because that was part of her motivation to vandalize my property. Once she made the statement to police, it is no longer private. All statements to police can be released to the public.

Interesting…but, suppose there’s a trial? I didn’t know confessions of criminals can be discussed if a trial is forth coming.

whatevergirl, it would go into the police report, which is public record and available to any member of the public or media who asks for it.

It might be admissible in court under the “spontaneous utterance” rule. She was not under arrest, and so the cop had no obligation to mirandize her. She decided to say all this stuff to him under no duress. Therefore, she cannot be protected from her admissions.

That said, any decent lawyer would try to have it thrown out anyway, on the grounds that she is mentally ill and does not know how to protect her own interests.
 
really? so if I call up and ask to see the report, I can see it? lol (I’m not planning to lol)

I guess I always thought police records were confidential in case of a pending trial.

Which, oddly enough, is a motion I might support or even suggest, as long as she received the mental health care she so clearly needs. I do not hate or fear this person. I am really sad that she is suffering and I want her to get help. Not much I can really do, however.
 
This poor unfortunate woman is ill.No one would ever volunteer for such horrid mental anguish.I pray to St Dymphna to intercede on this lady’s behalf.
