Well my Brothers and Sisters in Christ its pretty much the day. Lents starts very soon!!

What are you going to give up this year for Our Dear Lord?

Mine is Sweets!!! And trust me its going to be tough!

But there is alot of good in this, every time I want something with sugar I am going to say a Hail Mary, Our Father, and Glory be!!

How about you guy’s?

I’m going to give up coffee.

My morning ritual goes like this. Every morning I stop at the store and get a cup of coffee and drink it while reading the paper on the train. I almost feel like a need that coffee to “settle” my stomach in the mornings LOL. A true coffee addict I am.

Tomorrow is the first time I will be receiving ashes. I’m so excited and nervous.

Ztarbucks, and other foo-foo coffees. But not coffee altogether. I drink a lot of decaf at AA meetings, and AA coffee is penance enough:rolleyes:

Giving up facebook and doing something special for my husband.
Giving up doing something special for husband? That’s an odd one. 😃

I already quit smoking two weeks ago… Tomorrow say bye bye to chocolate and alcohol.

Cigarettes. Or at least try. Again. And trying not to impose my nicotine withdrawal jangled nerves on others into the bargain, in the name of charity.

I’ve gotten through Lents before (four of them in fact) without smoking, only to start again sometime between Easter week and Pentecost. Trying to gird up my loins, so to speak, by reading Cancer Society literature and meditating on the fifth commandment–“Thou shalt not kill” (myself, on the installment plan.)

Pray for me. I’m gonna need it.

My plan is to try and exersize more.
Nothing fantastic.
Just getting out and walking some in the morning before I get my lady up.

I think that I shall also try to concentrate more on house cleaning. There are so many things that I have been wanting to get done and haven’t (Sin of Sloth).

My biggest problem is I am good at making the plan - lousy at following through.

If you get a minute, shoot prayer my way that I can do better.

Peace
James

I already feel that Lent is started…just the anticipation

I am giving up soft drinks, fast food, and the “nightlife”. I’m in my early twenties and live in the middle of a very busy city, so this should be a fun and rewarding challenge to give up for Lent. I am very excited. Who knows, I may just keep it up after Lent is over. 😃
God bless!

I am thinking of giving up movies. I watch way too many, or I may just give up non-devotional movies. So I could watch the Passion of the Christ, or maybe the Lord of the Rings.

Coffee and caffeine products.

I usually have about 3 cups of coffee a day, plus caffeine pills before I workout. I really, really, really love coffee.

Of course, I will also be snacking less than I usually do too.

i`m giving up giving up… any one want to give it up for me!

I was going to try to give up smoking, but I am really unsure about it, I may just try to be completely quit by the end of 40 days 🙂

I’m giving up soda and fast food which is not going to be bad because I’ve already cut both of those things WAY down over the past 6 months (dieting).

In addition I’m going to go to 1 “daily” mass per week (in addition to my Sunday obligation) and 1 hour of Eucharistic adoration per week (which I’ve never done before, looking forward to it!!)

Odile:

I successfully quit smoking almost two years ago. Interestingly, I did it by accident. PM me if you want to talk about it.

I am “giving up” speaking about my anti-semetic, racist, “homosexuals should all be executed in the public square” brother who also lives with me.
He is 59 years old, disabled and an awful hate-filled person.
Just speaking of him raises my ire.
So, difficult as it will be, I rufuse to speak of him for 40 days and hope to find some charity in my heart for him during that time.

My sacrifice is also my soda addiction. I drink at least a 12-pack of soda each and every day. At least. I drank my last soda last night. No soda for me today. And oh my, caffeine addiction really is something else. I’m practically overdosing on Excedrin Migraine and vitamin water today and it’s barely taking the edge off lol.

I have been cutting down on my smoking since just after Christmas. I have gone from a pack and a couple a day to 10 or 11 a day.
I am going to try to give up the first cigarette of the day.

I have already blown it today, I only made it 11 1/2 hrs. Start again immidiately. Please pray for me.

Patrick

As a dentist, I would say you are doing your teeth a favor. Sodas are what keep most dentists in business these days.

As for the OP, I am giving up alcohol, and I am praying a Rosary and Lauds & Vespers each day.

Red Bull… All energy drinks in general. I heard they will kill you anyway. Plus, I am making a commitment to pray at least one extra prayer a day - for someone I don’t know… Going to the Prayer Intentions section of CAF and reading the situation and then praying.
