Went to a Methodist Service

On the evening before Thanksgiving I went with my grandmother to her church for a supper and a brief service. It was a good time. The minister was very sweet and nice and spoke eloquently of God the Father and Jesus, with hymn singing and prayer and eating in the church basement. However, it was a Methodist church and the minister was a woman. I had a great time but I am wondering if I committed a sin by going and should I confess it, or is it allowed? (FYI: they did NOT serve grape juice and wafers.)

You are allowed to go with your relative to a worship service or church supper. I doubt anything happened there to cause alarm. Methodist church suppers are harmless, unless this was some newfangled breakaway Methodist shindig that I’ve never heard of.

Unless, of course, you didn’t bring a dish to pass…:tsktsk: (I’m teasing!)

You are not allowed to receive communion there, but that would not be typical for a church supper.

On the general issue of attending a Protestant church service you may not receive Communion there, nor can you attend such a service in place of your Sunday obligation.
Occasional situations like you describe I don’t think pose any problems but regular attendence at Protestant services should be avoided.
