I finally went to confession!!!
I feel so much better and I feel like a weight was lifted!
It has been a few years since I had been.
Now I feel back on track!
Thank you God for giving me this chance!

How often do I need to go to confession?

One of the best feelings is coming out of the confessional box. You feel like you are ready to tackle the world and that you can not put a foot wrong. Go as often as you like, everyday even.

You may go to confession whenever you wish, and you should go whenever it is necessary–i.e. when you have a mortal sin on your soul. However, it is good, as with anything, to exercise prudence in your frequency of confession. If you go too often, you could become overly scrupulous; if you go too infrequently, you could develop a lax conscience. If you’re not sure how often you should go, ask your confessor–or even better, find a good solid priest to be your spiritual director, and ask him.

I go about once a week while I’m in school, as the Benedictines here offer confession daily. When I’m on home for extended breaks, I go about once monthly or biweekly, as regular confessions are not available.

The following assumes you have no mortal sin to confess. Any mortal sin should be confessed as soon as possible.

Most of us have a grocery list of venial sins that keep recurring and we are trying to get rid of. For that it is well to focus on a few rather than rattle off the whole list each time. Pick a couple that you are ready to really work on.

I have seen recommendations that range from weekly to quarterly [three months]. Beyond three months it is difficult to remember all ones sins. Less than weekly and one may be either just going through the motions, or becoming overly scrupulus.

Two weeks to monthly seems a good practice. Many recommend every two weeks, but I find going that frequently tends to become routine. I go through the motions but do not really repent. Monthly I can seriously review my actions and find where my usual ones are cropping up now.

I went today too and spoke with Father about unforgiveness I have been having.
Want to be ready for Easter with a washed mind and heart.🙂
Also I don’t like the communals that start next week.

:yup: (Plus literally RUNNING to the altar after confession! :D)

EWTN has a program on Confession right now, BTW.

I think at least once a month is a good rule of thumb. Maybe more during Advent/Lent. Also, really good spiritual opportunity to work on any sinful habits you may have. I agree about the great feeling of going too!

I usually go to confession once a month at the advice of my spiritual director and another priest friend of mine. I just went yesterday to confession to my priest friend in Parkville since I won’t be seeing my spritual director until next weekend, but I may go to confession then since it will be a new month.
