Went to first RCIA meeting today

Alot of times when I’ve done new stuff, ie military, I was nervous. I wasn’t nervous at all today at the beginning of Mass or at that RCIA. Just a bummer I have Reserves next weekend and won’t make it next sunday.

Great, when will you be confirmed into the church, this Easter?

I went through Easter 94. It is a great process, don’t be afraid to ask questions.
 
Unfortunately no. It is too late this time around for me to be confirmed. I’m bummed about that, and there’s not even rcia stuff in the summer.
 
There may not be official RCIA classes during the summer but I encourage you to get involved with another class, or organization in your parish. Go to your local Catholic book store and educate yourself as much as you can. Even if you’re just reading a biography of a saint, you will be engaging your mind about your faith.
 
That is what I thought. Hang in there. Go to the vigil mass at the cathedral before Easter. You can still do many neat things like Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP) weekend or most any other ministry, bible studies, etc. Ask your Priest how to stay engaged until fall RCIA.

I was in a similiar situation in many ways last year. In fact I may be in the same situation this year, lol. So I’m delighted to find somebody in a like way.

I’m thrilled you’ve decided to join RCIA, congratulations! Keep communications with your RCIA leaders going regarding your schedule with ROTC and so forth, with a clear understanding that you might not be in town next Easter if that is applicable.

Keep studying the faith on your own in the interim over the summer, and stay in contact with the RCIA leaders with any questions and any guidance.

Get and stay involved in the church.

Most of all, keep your prayers going daily asking the Holy Spirit for guidance.

That’s what I’ve done, and there’s my advice.

Haha, I’m not in ROTC. I have been and still am in the real military.
 
Real military? You did say reserves right? Just kidding! I’m Active Duty AF, and understand the hardships od being a new Catholic in the military lifestyle.
 
haha, I was active 4 years as well. Was joking about rotc, it’s like GI joes imo. I’ll contact someone to see if I can’t get a make up class of rcia.

Hi Trace – I walked into my first RCIA meeting last 2-14-08 and so was also too late to be baptized/confirmed/eucharisted last Easter Vigil. And like you I was bummed when summer came along. I used the summer to do some study on my own – there are Catholic websites that have study materials you can download for free.

I know it’s hard to wait, but this time next year you will be sooooooo happy to see Lent roll around.

While being baptized is wonderful, drawing close to God and becoming a faithful follower of Christ is a life-long goal. Congratulations on beginning the journey!
