Went To Mass Today

I went to the local St. Columba Mass and it was amazing! The Church was beautiful. The only thing I disliked was the great deal of cultural Catholics. Other than that, everything was perfect.

I talked to the Deacon and he gave me his number. I’m going to try my best to get the RCIA in September.

The only thing I disliked was the great deal of cultural Catholics.

I suggest that you focus yourself on the Mass and what a gift it is for us instead of finding things that you do not like about it.

About the cultural Catholic thing… Before I was Catholic I used to judge people at mass as being so uninterested… they just didn’t seem as “peppy” as the churchgoers I knew at Protestant Churches. Once I learned what the mass meant, I realized what a somber event it really is. It’s as if we are at the foot of the cross … certainly not a time for whooping it up, is it? Anyhow, as someone said - just worry about yourself. You have no idea what’s going on in the hearts of others.

But yay that you went to mass! I don’t want to downplay that one bit!! Yay yay yay!!!

I said it because it was pretty obvious and blatant. One girl I know from school was there. She doesn’t practice an ounce of the Faith.

Also, there were tons of women in skimpy, trashy clothing dishonorable to God.

On your journey toward Catholicism you would do well to understand that it is not our place to judge that someone “doesn’t practice an ounce of the Faith” or what you think is "dishonorable to God." Christ Himself told us to remove the beam in our own eye before we point to the speck in other’s…perhaps you should meditate on that.

Me again. OK, I totally get what you’re saying about the skimpy clothed women and the people you know and then see at mass and you can’t help but think OMGosh… are YOU Catholic?? Because nothing in their life seems the least bit honoring to God. I totally get that. But here’s the thing… the Catholic Church is HUGE and there are all sorts of people at different places in their spiritual walk at mass. The good thing is they are AT MASS… there are so many people who don’t give a hoot that it’s Sunday… mass is the last thing on their mind. So yay for them that at least they are there. Maybe this particular Sunday is the first one they’ve been to in awhile? Rather than judging them, it’s best that like the other poster said, we let God work on us. None of us are perfect - we are all a work in progress. Some people’s sins or struggles might be more obvious than our own, but you and I both know - we’ve got our own issues.

And finally, as you begin your VERY EXCITING journey toward becoming Catholic, head’s up… Satan is going to want you to notice everything and everybody in the Church who will cast doubts that this is God’s Holy Church. You will find yourself sitting behind skimpy dressed woman who chat through the entire mass, rather than the very devout family who pray reverently. It’s just the way it works out… trust me. It wasn’t so long ago that I was where you are now and it wasn’t the nuts and bolts of the Catholic Faith that almost drove me away - but Catholics themselves, acting how I thought they shouldn’t act. So beware of that little trick of Satan’s. Keep your eyes on Him and He will direct your path.

If people did not sin and were perfect, what would be the need for Church? Church is for sinners…you never know the condition of someones heart…that young lady may struggle daily and have the disposition of heart that she truly wants to live the faith, yet was never instructed properly how to…or has some other type of outside pressure, force of habit, or addiction that is handicapping her…pray for her…don’t judge her.
