Well, wen’t to my first Christmas Mass today, it was sooooo beautiful and the Church was soo full O: The Priest even used incense and the music was just so beautiful, i just loved it overall and it was so solemn, and soo beautiful, oh praise the Divine Infant. lol just wanted to share that xD

I was not able to go last year (health matters) but got to the 5 pm mass this year.
Yes they used incense in our mass as well…Now all we need is some “bells” at the alter, and we’ll be a full “smells and bells” parish…

We had a EF midnight mass here in town that I would have liked to have gotten to but…It was just too much…Maybe next year.

Hope everyone has a beautiful and blessed and safe Christmas and lets say a prayer for all those caught in the winter storm on this blessed day.

Where I live we don’t use incense very often either. Will see it usually around Christmas and Easter - maybe during a healing service and such…But not every week. Of course here I am talking about my local OF at my parish. I can’t speak definitively for the EF parish in our area.

So I can see where someone fairly new to the faith would not be use to seeing it used.

Surprising; my hometown church is OF and I believe they use incense every week. If not, the smell must linger.

I love the smell of incense, particularly mixed with floral scents; my church was decorated for Christmas and the smell of the incense with the poinsettias (at the time, I believed it smelled like roses and thought of Our Lady) was wonderful.

We don’t have incense every Sunday, but we do have it more often than just Christmas and Easter. We don’t have the EF where I live. Our Masses are probably the closest as we have some chat and sing a Marion Antiphon in Latin before the closing hymn. We also have incense and sing hymns in Latin on Adoration Wednesdays during the Benediction.

Our church is over a 100 years old. When you walk in you can always smell a hint of incense.

I envy you! I only joined the church a couple months ago and was really looking forward to making mass on Christmas Eve or Day, but unfortunately my protestant parents requested I go with them to their service. I would’ve tried to attend mass in addition, but I was obliged to family functions at all the other times mass was scheduled. I guess I’ll just look forward to attending next year when I can receive the Eucharist in addition!

Check out masstimes.org in advance next year, Many parishes have extra or different Masses times for Christmas so call ahead. But with some planning you’ll be able to get to Mass and also participate in family gatherings.
