We're Adam and Eve vegetarians?

I get that you were kidding:). I was referring to the idea that we were “meant” somehow to be vegetarians. It makes no rational sense. Humans clearly evolved as omnivores, we have digestive systems and nutritional requirements that are gears signed for eating meat and plants, so the idea that somehow we started out as plant eaters only smacks of biblical literalism and is not tenable when viewed along with scientific facts.

There is a difference between vegetarians and vegans. Vegans take vegetarianism to the point of being a religion. Adam and Eve were not given permission to eat meat. Assuming they were obedient - we’re not told either way - they were vegetarians but not vegans. God only gave that permission to humanity after Noah’s flood. Note in the account of Cain and Abel that Abel kept sheep. We can assume this was for their wool and not their meat. However, when he and Cain made their sacrifices, Abel had no trouble sacrificing one of the sheep. A vegan would find that abhorrent.
Veganism is not a religion. Veganism is about someone who chooses not to put animals through pain or misery for any reason be it food, experimentation, clothing, ect. I do not think God would have a problem with that, if he wants a sacrifice he could have my tofu for the day.

It is also a very healthy way to live and helps avoid all that bad stuff they put into animals to make them so abormally large (why are free range no-GMO chicken breasts always so much smaller than your regular Tyson chicken breasts).

Technically, before the fall…we didn’t have to eat to survive because we were in the presence of God.

Whether Adam and Eve had to eat is not the question. Whether they had to or not, they did.

Uh, yes, it is a religion. Typical vegan literature often approaches the level of animal worship.

I know what the question is, I asked it 😛

And I must apologies for “we’re Adam and Eve” as the subject title. Obviously I meant “were Adam and Eve” …I’m blaming autocorrect on my iPhone, plus lack of sleep.

I am almost vegan…still working on it…have been 100% vegetarian for 20 years. its definitely not considered a religion to me. i just dont want to be the cause of an animal’s pain. They are God’s creatures too…and I know He said we are rulers over them and gives us permission to eat animals, etc…I just choose not to because I love all His creations. I dont worship animals though.

You are 100% wrong, nice try though.
No he’s not. He’s 100% correct. Though you may not be aware of the neo-pagan ideals you are perpetuating and popularizing by equating the dignity of animals with the dignity of human beings, which the vegan agenda seeks to do, it does indeed reek of paganism.

But you consider their pain and their awareness of pain to be equal to ours, which is clearly degrading to human dignity. We are superior to animals in every way, shape, and form, including the extent to which God loves and cares for us. You may chose not to eat them if you do not want to, but to rationalize it in a way that elevates them to human status is entirely heretical.

You know the problem is out of hand in our society when people go to movies and cry when a dog dies but not when a human being dies. Shows you where our hearts are, and the extent to which we despise our own kind, that which God loves most, that which has an eternal soul and fully fleshed out dignity, yet favour the mindless beasts with inferior souls.

Could you “better than God” Catholics please point to the correct verse in the bible or teaching by Jesus that says I MUST eat meat, experiment on animals, use animals for food, or wear clothing made from animals?

Just because something is different than you doesn’t mean you need to hate it or make up lies.

Nobody is claiming to be better than God. I didn’t say you must eat meat. I in fact even said you are free not to eat it. But if you chose not to eat it, it can’t be via a moral argument that equates animal dignity to human dignity.

In the beginning God gave man dominion over animals. He commanded man to fill the earth and subdue it.

Jesus remarks on how the birds and other animals don’t worry about the future yet God provides for them. He then proclaims “How much more important you are than birds!”

Even if that is not in reference to all human beings but to all creatures, it bears no weight on this discussion. I never said the Lord doesn’t have compassion for all he has made. I simply said we are of greater dignity and importance than every single other creation God has ever made. This is repeated over and over in the scriptures, and is a part of Church teaching.

You said Vegans are like Pagans because they don’t want to do harm to animals so they must be worshiping them. I don’t have to kill a cow to understand that a cow is not a person.

Nothing you said answers that question.

I also do not kill people either.

Inferior or not, their pain is as real as anyone else’s. They just cannot express it like we can. it doesnt mean I think more highly of them than I would a human. I blubber like a fool at the movies when I see humans die…but i would also cry for the needless suffering and killing of an innocent animal who may not be able to protect itself from human cruelty.

We may be superior to animals, but that does not mean we have to treat them poorly. I do not begrudge anyone eating meat or wearing leather. I am sure I have a pair of leather shoes somewhere in the closet myself.

I just dont believe that Adam and Eve ate meat before the fall. God gave them the fruit of every tree (well, almost!) to eat. I dont recall Him saying “and these animals are here for you to eat as well”. Of course, I am no bible scholar, believe me. I could be wrong. I think eating meat came way later. Bad weather preventing harvest of fruits and veggies…people hungry…and think “I wonder what that cow tastes like” . Next thing you know, we are meat eaters, and now it is the norm. And we have been eating meat so long that its easy to say we were born to.

And technically, we were really not meant to drink cows milk either, when you think about it. Cows milk is for baby cows. lol. We are the only species on this earth that drinks the milk of another species, long after we should have been weaned off it as babies.

Kinda strange, dont you think?

Consider the possibility that they ate an egg, or honey. The list can go on and on…

I think it’s plausible to assume they ate at least something to scratch them off the “vegetarian only” list.

Oh, I am sure they did…and meat too. After the fall though. Thats just my opinion,…it just seems to make the most sense to me.

I can’t point you to a Bible verse nor do I care if you don’t eat meat. But your snarky remark is uncalled for.

I am assuming that you wear no leather or any other animal by-products.

I hope you have no pet that are meat eaters because making them vegetarian goes against nature.

I do not buy products that use animal testing but, I do eat meat (yum) and would not function well without it, I wear leather and just because I do these things does not mean that I believe in animal cruelty.
