He just needs a little gentle redirection and education. 🙂

He stands in the tradition of Apollos.

Full of vigor and enthusiasm, but in need of some theological correction.

I’m allowed an opinion, y’ know! I never mentioned the word ‘formal’ or ‘formally’. And you have still ceased in providing adequate detail that explicitly states that these three men were laymen with no extra religious vows made when selected to be Pope.

Btw, a member of the laity might oneday become a Bishop. I hope this is educational! 🤷😃

I always mean Roman Catholic when I say it.
Then you are incorrect if you mean any baptized Catholic.

For then you are excluding Ruthenian Catholics, Maronite Catholics, Chaldean Catholics, etc etc etc.

It’s like you keep telling someone, “Well, I’m still going to call you Chinese, even though you’ve told me that you’re Thai. Same thing. You’re all the same to me anyway.”

You are in fact deviating around the points I’m making. Nevermind. But parts of the thread have been educational. I agree with the other poster. It has made me think more about our sister Churches (not Rites 😉 ). For this, I am grateful.

You will find the shape on Wiki and many other websites.
What shape? A circle? Or a square?

Certainly.

But not a circle that’s a square.
Nor a square that’s a circle.

If someone tries to show you a picture of one, you can say, with a great degree of certainty: “That’s NOT a square that’s a circle.” Or “That’s a square with rounded edges. Definitely not a circle.”

And your opinion (deacons are part of the laity) is WRONG.

“NO, It’s not your opinion. You’re just wrong”?QUOTE]

My opinion was an assertion. There are a lot of these on this thread. I think they are allowed. Technically, Deacons are not laymen, but in practice, IMO, in the U.K, from my experience of being around them, they are like laymen but with extra duties. Not formal. My opinion. We don’t live in a theocracy in which people’s personal views need to be slammed. 😃
Nope. Wasn’t educational. I already knew that. 🙂

Please look on Google. Who is to say that a Squircle is not an actual shape. We could say the same for a rectangle. That the shape is merely an extended square along one path but someone called it a rectangle nevertheless. There are mathematicians who think differently to you, PR!

Do you think this is going off the subject of the thread a little too much. It is my fault. Some posters have recently raised some interesting points to do with the subject of the thread…

Had you respectfully answered my post from a long time ago then you would not have written this. The post consisted of me asking if the only difference was that the Catholic Churches were located in different areas. However, after having been ignored, a source I posted spoke of the sort of differences which do occur between the different Catholic Churches (not Rites).
Please stop comparing this subject to racial abuse. Racism is a very serious issue.

My opinion was an assertion.
Your opinion is a misconception.

It is* factually wrong*.

As such, adding “It’s my opinion” to something that’s just plain incorrect doesn’t give you license to continue to assert things which are wrong.

[SIGN1]Deacons are NOT part of the laity.[/SIGN1]

'nuff said on this.

I’ll give my opinions as and when I choose: “nuff said on this” - yup.

Your opinion, in this case, is simply wrong.

It’s as wrong as if you kept saying, “The capital of the USA is 3! And that’s my opinion and I am free to assert it as much as I like!”

You can assert it as much as you like here, that is true, but you will continue to be corrected whenever your assertions are incorrect.

That’s because it is 2! <<<<My first infallible teaching. :highprayer:

Just like you can now correct someone who uses the term “Roman Catholic Church” when they actually mean the “Catholic Church”.
Are you going to correct the Vatican when they use the term Roman Catholic Church?

vatican.va/roman_curia/pontifical_councils/chrstuni/angl-comm-docs/rc_pc_chrstuni_doc_20070914_growing-together_en.html

Do you contend that the Vatican is wrong to use the term Roman Catholic in its official documents and that you are right?

Borrowing from my previous analogy–it sounds like you’re saying that Chinese people can’t use the term Chinese to describe themselves?

Surely you see that Chinese people, because they are…er, Chinese, can use this term.

So if there was a meeting: FINAL COMMUNIQUÉ OF THE JOINT GROUP
BETWEEN THE CHINESE GOVT AND THE UNITED NATIONS

you think they shouldn’t identify as Chinese because there are Thais, and Malaysians and Japanese folks?

This has nothing to do with Chinese. It has everything to do with whether or not the term Roman Catholic is acceptable. Here’s what you said:
you can now correct someone who uses the term “Roman Catholic Church” when they actually mean the “Catholic Church”.
The Vatican uses the term Roman Catholic so it is not wrong to use it, contrary to what you have implied.
