Were "Family Values" a Big Part of Christ's Preaching?

I can think of a couple of times that Jesus mentioned family values in the Gospels: “what God has joined, let no man tear asunder”, and the conversation with the woman at the well.

Is there anything else? Were family values really a big part of Jesus’ teaching? They seem to form a big part of Catholic life today.

Can anyone help with more scripture quotes from Christ?
 
“Family values” do show up in Jesus’ teaching about a number of things.

His relationship to children after the apostles wanted to keep them away, His teaching that while Moses did allow for divorce, it was because of human weakness, not because God intended it to be so. His transcendence of the “physical” family in calling all those who did the will of the Father as His brothers, sisters, etc. His use of family terms to describe the relationship between God and His people.

The main thing is that Jesus did not allow us to take license to sin.

Just my 2 cents worth (Euro or Canadian).

NO! Not if you don’t count the Commandments, The Beatitudes and the “new Commandment” : "Love your neighbor as yourself. :eek:

Maybe I should present a definition of family values:
These beliefs have encompassed such topics as the roles of marriage, divorce, childbearing, gender roles, and sexual activity and have shaped not only the family’s interaction with society, but also legislative policy.

“Love your neighbour as yourself” could just as easily be applied outside the family as inside the family, so I don’t see how its specifically a family value. Was Jesus big on emphasizing the importance of the traditional family?
 
Maybe they were not really things he felt needed to be addressed because his audience was mostly Jewish, and they must have already had a teaching in place for those topics that were working out fine. Maybe he only taught to correct the misunderstandings and of course, to reveal himself I guess.

What I suggested about the Commandments and Beaitudes ARE the foundation for family values:) Hey, but what do I know?
