Were humans in Heaven before Jesus' resurrection?

If Jesus opened the gates of Heaven at the resurrection, that implies that there were no humans in heaven prior to that. How does that mesh with the fact that Jesus conversed with Moses and Elijah at the Transfiguration. Where were Moses and Elijah if not in heaven?🤷

Jesus changed the nature of salvation with the institution of the new covenant upon His death and resurrection… the old covenant was in place before that, however.

No, humans were not in Heaven before the Ascension. The Just of the Old Testament waited in the Limbo of the Fathers.

Elijah and Enoch (and I may be forgetting a name or two) were assumed directly, weren’t they?
 
No one exactly knows. Paul speaks of a person being caught up into the third heaven.

The one thing we do know for sure is that Jesus is the first fruits and that all come after him.

So no–no humans were in Heaven before Jesus went there first!

Thanks. I have never heard of the Limbo of the Fathers. Was that for all the people before Christ, or just the saved?

Looking at a NT reference to your topic in Luke 16:19-26 the place where the rightous awaited the Messiah to come for them and open the gates of heaven was called “Abraham’s Bosom”, (v-22). He then writes about the rich man who died, was buried and was in the “abode of the dead” where he was in torment, (v-23). Additionally in verse 26 Luke writes there is a great abyss between the two places, and no one can cross either way. So I have always heard, and this scripture implies the rightous who died before Jesus waited for him in Abraham’s bosom and the wicked went on to what we call hell, from which there is no return.

Thanks for the insight Mike. Is the bosom of Abraham referred to in the old Testament as well?
 
I would like you to e-mail me (email removed for privacy) the only reason is, I am having problems getting into some questions that someone has sent me and I can’t seam to find them on this form. But as to this question. Were humans in Heaven before Jesus" Resurrection? I believe the question should be did we exist before. Humans referring to those who have blood flowing through your veins did not exist in heaven before Christ Resurrection, but we did as spirits children, for example Jeremiah 1:5 God knew Jeremiah before his birth This could not of happened with out an existence, Psalm 82:6 that we are children of the most high, we were spirits first and when we die our spirit leave the body 1 Peter 3:18-20 Here Christ died and his spirit left and went to the spirit world to preach to the spirits who were disobedient in the days of Noah. Christ not only died for our sins but made it possible for us to be resurrected. Jesus body was in the tomb for 3 days before he returned to receive his body, His spirit then went to this spirit prison to preach to them. Then on the Third Day Rose from the DEAD. He showed his resurrected body to Mary and the apostles. Luke 24: 36-39 He was the first of the resurrection, Those who appeared to Jesus on the mount of transfiguration were the spirits of those who had lived on the earth and died. These spirits of the prophets came to Jesus to administer to him. The resurrection prove that there is life after death and that you will receive a body of flesh and bone. But blood will not flow in these bodies but spirit.

God knew all of us before we were conceived because we are conceived in time and God lives outside of time. No one existed before they were conceived.

Thank you for your opinion, your entitled to that. But that is how churches are formed, gathering people who have the same opinion. The opinion conceived in time, is there a scripture on that, religion are conceived in such manner.

Biblical proof that God is both past present and future.

Get out a microscope and write down the time when egg and sperm unite.

Objective proof of conception at a specific time.

Since God is beyond time He could indeed know you before you were born.
 
I’d like very much to get back to the topic. Something from way back in my memory tells me that Elijah was taken into heaven directly. How do we explain that, I wonder, if Jesus was the first one into heaven?

You will find it in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Our souls are created by God at the time we are conceived. They are not chosen from those existing in heaven and installed into a body!

I see, you only understand the beginning of the seed of life. That is your beginning. Do you believe that man has a spirit in him?
