To give a background of this dealio:

I have been doing “self improvement” for the last year and a half. Every day, I tend to come up with new… notes, new ideas, new perspectives… etc. Yes, I am a Catechumen, so I don’t know what it’s like to be Baptized or to partake of the Eucharist (I have this feeling that… nothing will noticeably change after these things? although I don’t know how anything couldn’t).

But yes, I work hard to do my best in whatever ideology-for-social-interaction I am convinced of at the time. Ideologies shift, but the cores and basis for things stay the same–such as doing the best thing, and doing it for… the right end. These are my mainstays.

To give more understanding and background, I am working hard to understand others. I am a melancholic by temperament, and truly, I desire to know why, and to understand myself and others to a fairly great degree–maybe even in an extremely unbalanced way. People claim that I “think too much,” but the funny thing is that I am always tuned into what it going on around me, and what the people are doing… how they are reacting to me and others… etc. Blah blah blah etc.

To cut the chase, I want to understand the “woman,” and I want to understand the “man.” Today has things so screwed up that I don’t know what’s up or down regarding the natural tendencies and roles for each gender–like, what’s right for each gender to do? Is the man supposed to be nurturing 24/7, and if he isn’t, is he a “jackass?” I’ve read this particular quote several times that suggests a reason for why men have a hard time being men… that people push onto men this idea: “The reason why you are a jackass is because you are a man. Be more like a woman.” Hm. This is a big deal. It has to do with discipline, and holding fast to what’s morally right, etc. What quote-on-quote, people say “You’re ‘moral laws’ are infringing upon my rights,” and so on.

I believe that we live, at least in the cities, in a woman’s world and society. The devil knows that the way to usurp the man is through the women, and it seems like men feel like they’ve been displaced… like they get no respect and keep getting shoved down; that society does everything it can to elevate the woman and keep pushing the man down back into “boyhood.” You see it everywhere… I mean, feminism is MASSIVE, and has massive side-effects that reach EVERYTHING and everywhere… every fiber of life.

Men are prey and victim to the psychology of the manipulative woman, or rather, girl. Women aren’t men, and guys think that women think like men do, but that’s completely and absolutely wrong. You don’t generally reason logically to convince a woman–it’s more… through a mix of both emotional and logical reasoning.

I mean, come on. I have this problem with some fellas of mine (guy-friends). They tend to scrutinize, doubt, and look for cracks. It’s like a power struggle, like we’re trying to establish who has the authority over another (it’s not just the typical guy stuff, you know 🙂 ). This power struggle is sickening. It ain’t right. The one thing that gives me hope is that I had this GREAT, yet short, relationship with a fella one time, and we hit it off as if we’d always known each other. Neither of us judged. We just… jived. We were both each other, and okay with each other being unique and different. We both didn’t care! We were living beyond all that social… b.s. It was stunning. (I guess I know there’s more than meets the eye here… like, I must’ve been in a good mood or something)

I don’t know. What about the story of Samson and Delilah? Do men give their “secrets” (keys to their power) away way too freely these days?

I don’t get it. I feel like we’re all playing silly games with each other. Maybe it’s just that I have unhealthy relationships. This must be the case.

Eh, I lost my train of thought. Well, this might be enough for conversation. Or maybe not. The conclusion to whatever I just rambled may seem rather clear and self-explanatory, but maybe if someone could elaborate perhaps the gender difficulties and confusions of today… that would clarify something.

haha yes finally someone who gets it…I’ve always thought that we were living in “Brave New World” written by Aldous Huxley…the parallels between the book and 21st century are bizarre, but eerily similar…

Hi. Welcome to the Forums.

Take a virtual breath regarding the many issues you’re posting about.

Then please restate what you’d like to ask us to help with in a simple question or two.

Your post is so stream-of-consciousness that it is very difficult to read. Take the time to write a shorter post and I’m sure there are many of us who will like to help!

I agree with the above. . . there’s a lot of different things there.

I’m assuming the OP is female.

My only take on it is to be careful about essentializing individuals: people are more than their gender. And the whole “the Male” and “the Female” business is new-agey Jungian talk, or so I think.

Better to take each person as he or she comes.

Caveat: I am not formally educated in human relationships. This is just my opinion based on my life experience exceeding 65 years and a marriage exceeding 45 years.

Solid core values versus trying to please others to fit in socially. What should we do? What can we expect (require) of others? How do we decide between our need to be PRINCIPLED while being POPULAR at the same time?

We taught our daughters to always remain true to our principles. You will loose some ‘friends,’ but in time, you will find friends that share your principles. With these who share your principles, you can be yourself and enjoy each others company without feeling you have to control or need to compromise.

The best set of principles I know are those taught by Jesus Christ. While we are imperfect and cannot always adhere to these principles, it is important to be as fully committed to Christ as we can be and seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit daily and the Sacraments frequently.

Many of my co-workers and acquaintances do not hold Christ as their moral center. Many of these try defend what I know to be immoral behavior and try to get me to accept their judgments as being right or at least right for them. I know it is wrong to sleep around, to do drugs, to spread malicious gossip about others, etc. I see no need to agree or partake in such behavior just to get along with them. Most of them are not interested in changing their behavior and do not see me as their trusted counsellor that can help them get to a better balance in life. If I see a good opening - someone who may be ready to listen - I do try to say something. But many rejected Christ and His Apostles and so I know that I too will face rejection of my values. That’s no reason to compromise my Catholic Values.

As for the man - woman relationship. We should remember that verse in the Bible that states, “and the two shall become one.” We are not roommates with priviledges and separate bank accounts. Yes we do have a few separate friends and interests, but mostly we are one.

Be patient and prayerful, and you will find that person that wants to be your mate and not your slave or your dictator. In some aspects of life, I lead with her advice, in other aspects she leads. It depends on who is better but we also have each other’s back. If I can’t do something for some reason, she takes over until I can. And vice versa. We are each other’s helpmate.

Life is complex. It is a Brave New World. But the basics remain true. Stay true to your Catholic values. Invite the Holy Spirit into your life daily. We live among those who do not want to live by Christ. But there are those who do. In time you will find them and find your soul mate.

I take this as a compliment.

Yeah, thanks. I’d totally agree. That Jungian stuff is all over the place these days.

Definitely true. I wassss kind of silly to think that people would find it easy to understand that mess o.O, not that I am necessarily apologizing. I’ll just take this lesson to heart.

Phew, I’m glad someone else thinks that life has some complexities involved in it. haha

Ah, many feelings of gratitude inside for your reply… best of wishes to you. (too bad I am not a baptized Catholic yet, not that I am not patient on waiting!! :), I just… can’t wait)

[horizontal bar goes here]

Yeah, I definitely have problems “giving myself away” too freely to everybody, as if everybody was my family or something. I guess I need to learn how to dispense of myself wisely amongst people with regards to how much of a role they play in my life (and how much of a role I play in theirs). (everyone is not my pupil… etc. I could probably really learn some restraint and temperance too)

!! And no, finally, I am not female, but I don’t really mind the “stilted” advice (because I am probably very melancholic – I feel everything!!… so, the advice may apply appropriately–I don’t know). Yeah I know, some of my choleric guy friends think I’m crazy. It’s… really laughable. I just mess around their minds.

Yeah, this is just how I try to serve the world. Believe me, I don’t have very much, if any, unhealthy self-doubt (believe me, I know myself fairly well given the circumstances–trust me on this one)… I guess I could really afford some present-mindedness!

I am trying to be wise for my age, and it can be tough, because no one understands it really… and I can’t blame them! It’s a struggle… I want to live a life worth living. I mean, I really want to live with the end in mind. I’m tired of mixing up the two greatest commandments, and putting God second. Like, I keep God as a grave importance in my life, but even so, people often become “graver.” At least, I do dare to presume (forgive my boldness!!) that many people often switch these two after they come so far in “self-improvement.” It’s like they get a little carried away, and once again, I don’t blame them! It’s just… what really matters? Soo, it’s the old game of priorities, and keeping everything in perspective and so on, and doing both (which ain’t easy, cause it can become really easy to forget being a living example and get too heavy on “Godliness” and the like… hm, where’s the balance).

I’ll learn in time, naturally. I do really want to rush things, and I’ll never stop trying. My latest development is learning how to be normal with people instead of overbearing and insulting. It’s crazy stuff man. It’s like I’m trying to be everyone’s self-improvement coach!

Love ya all.

Once again, thanks a lot. I hope too much thanks isn’t flattery, yikes. (that would definitely be self-defeating).

As a note on understanding how I “speak” and how I type:

I type a lot of stuff (obviously). It’s like conversation. I just… speak naturally (I mean, I type fast, so it works… although it’s kind of a curse I guess because it allows me to type A LOT, and also allows for a lot of silly mistypes).

Basically, as you read what I’ve typed, you’ll naturally pick up on little bits and pieces – amid all the stuff – that matter, like the facts. When you talk to somebody, you don’t speak in just facts. You… speak in all sorts of ways that imply meaning and things and stuff, etc. Things often pivot around how you feel – although you may make your feelings correspond with your will, you still have feelings, and you still communicate them, or your lack of.

I do my best to clarify, edit, and specify, but, I can only do so much, and naturally, you can only do so much, so I don’t really expect much to begin with anyway, especially since you don’t know me, and we’re absolutely complete strangers (meaning that your natural duties in life don’t really involve me). So, I don’t really expect anyone to reply. It’s just icing on the cake! and very much appreciated 🙂

Also, as far as “emotions” go, what once felt applicable one day might not feel the same the next, although the level of its importance may still be stable and relevant. I guess this is just how things work, and kind of common sense… emotions are the coloring! Yay.

By the way, thank you very much for this article. This explains a lot of what I have been wondering about regarding men and women. I KNEW SOMETHING WASN’T RIGHT ABOUT SOCIETY. It’s just so hard, having been brought up in it, to find the RIGHT ways for things… how things used to be, how things should be… the TRUE NATURE of things!! Oh, everyone claims that everything is so relative, and I have been beating my head against a wall time and time again saying, “No, everything has a nature! And we can know it!! People, please, this is for your own good! Rejoice, there is truth!!” uuugh…

I can only say this. From my history of receiving physical and verbal abuse from either genders, I’ve deemed any attempt of differentiating them on the basis of gender as ultimately futile.

To give a background of this dealio:

I have been doing “self improvement” for the last year and a half. so on.

I believe that we live, at least in the cities, in a woman’s world and society. Don’t put people into boxes. What you do right here is to say that feminism is the cause of all evil, that men are the victims etc of our time. Thats not right. Rather the problem is that 1) the consequences of original sin which we all have 2) and modern man have made a society with certain values which you don’t agree on. Men make up half of our societies and have at least 50 percent of a say in media, politics etc. You dont have to make them infantile in taking all responsibility from them. Many men do that already by themselves. So come out of your girl-against-boy thinking, realise that feminism is many things, some of which have benefitted you personally, and others which are really bad… in the end we are all just people struggling with our daily life and dreams. One of the difficult things in our time is the mixture of freedom and godlessness. People need direction which comes from knowing their own human nature. No difference in men and women here… many use and abuse eg. sexuality in the name of a false freedom and its very sad to watch.
Men will always have a great power over women and women will always have a great power over men, because we all need each other and are geared towards union and fellowship with each other, and at the same time we are fallen, so that we have temptations to dominate, lust, be suspicious of others etc…
The world is much more complex that you describe, in my oppinion.
Try to see if you can develop a more healthy and empathic perspective on women. Maybe you need to get aquainted with more people, and different people. Maybe there is even some healing you have to go through in terms of your own thinking patterns, or healing in family relationships.
If there is a competition or domination element in your friendships then ask yourself why that is, because its not supposed to be there.

in my oppinion.
^.^
I respect it 🙂
If there is a competition or domination element in your friendships then ask yourself why that is
I’ve learned that a particular friend of mine is impatient, and that a particular relative of mine… has complexes she’s dealing with (inferiority/superiority… these two seem to flip-flop with people–it comes with the package). Also, multiple people I know are fairly codependent with others.

And how have we benefited from feminism…? o.O

I dunno, I don’t know enough of your position to say much in response. I am curious to see how you mean when you say that I have put people in a box. I don’t quite see it… although I’d be open to have it be pointed out to me.

As far as men goes… you’re right, I’ve only seen | | much of the world, so I cannot speak for much. But one thing is for certain–respect is lacking over a wide spread of things, and I’m not saying either/or over the respect issue… it’s just the faulty stuff my limited observation has shown me, and I’m not angsty over it. I just notice it here and there. [shrug].

Just one day at a time… Something I notice one day might be obsolete the next. I can never be too certain, except for the things that keep working, and keep showing themselves to be true each and every day. Trends are a big deal.

But a note on feminism… So men, first of all, need to be trustable. After men have shown their trustability time and time again, women need to trust them. Yes, discussion = great and encouraged, but after all opinions have been taken into consideration, if the man is trustable and he takes a risky course of action… sometimes the best thing is to trust his judgment, because that will probably give him the extra gumption to carry on through and “deliver.”

But really, have I ever been married? Am I financially stable and independent? Do I have the experience of years behind me? No, not really. So, for all my examples and stuff, I have to imagine things. I mean, you can tell that I am not refined by years. My stuff is stilted and brusque… I am still a little young and cocky. Okay, a lot of young and cocky.
