Were Mary and Joseph really married?

I want to start by saying that I absolutely believe in the Church’s teachings and my question is relating to the perpetual virginity of Mary. I’ve read that Catholics cannot marry unless they are able to complete the marital act. Since Mary remained virgin, were her and Joseph ever truly married?
