Were the Apostles "equal" to Jesus while Jesus was still around?

In Jesus time, while Jesus walked with The Apostles, was there no heirchy?

Jesus said that the disciple was not greater than his Master.

So do YOU really suppose Jesus thought the Apostles were equal to Him on the basis of these words?

Or course “I” don’t.

Just trying to get a sense where this idea that the original Church started by Jesus had not heirchy when I clearly see Him as a leader and saw nothing in scripture that states that we are to change what He created.
