Genesis 3:17

To Adam he said, "Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ "Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.

God didn’t curse Adam. The ground was cursed. Adam chose to rely on fruit to make himself like God as opposed to God.

YOU: “God curses the whole human race!”

GOD: “Cursed is the ground because of you.”

I see a BIG DIFFERENCE

Who cursed the Ground then because I’m sure Adam did not speak it ?

God told Adam that since he decided to rely on food as opposed to God, he get what he wanted and rely on food. The ground was not literally cursed like God put a hex on it.

Meant to say ground,

What I’m asking is it seems like God cursed the ground because of Adams sin !

No. The ground was not cursed. Adam relied on food over God, and so got to rely on food to live. And it takes work to grow and catch food.

Personally, I don’t believe that anything or anyone is cursed. What exactly do you mean by curse?
First, you have to define what that means. Otherwise we are building an argument on a slippery slope.

Malachi 2:2

If you do not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name," says the LORD of hosts, "then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.

I’m not an adept bible scholar, however, I have often discovered that the translation is false or the translators tend to take liberties.
It seems to me that when God cursed Adam and Eve it means that, maybe, God allowed Adam and Eve to use their human will. The reliance on human will caused the fall of Adam and Eve, thus, ushering in an era of our inability to recognize grace and providence when it is given.
The Fall may have done some damage to the earth.
The word ,“Curse,” sounds like witch craft. Maybe, God removed grace?
What do you think?

The root of the word,“curse,” is a Middle English or Old English word. This website is a useful source for definition and hermeneutic relationships between bible passages. I don’t know how reliable it is? Apparently, there are several words in the bible used for the word," curse."

God is allowed to punish wrongdoing.

Why do people have such a hard time with this idea? Nobody blinks if an imperfect human cop arrests a thief and an imperfect human judge sentences him to prison.

But people get their pantyhose in a wad at the idea that God, the supreme good and holy creator of the universe, might punish wrongdoing.

You’re not answering my question. What is the definition of a curse?

This is odd. In the bible it is common to say that Jesus cursed the fig tree. However, he does not say “I curse the fig tree.”
When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it."
In another part of the bible, Luke 13: 4, Jesus is asked about the Tower of Siloam that fell on 18 people. It appears that the people were thought to be cursed and that God did this to them for retribution. Jesus tells them otherwise.

Weren’t the plagues in Egypt considered curses?

This is interesting. I counted how many time the bible uses the word,“curse”. Over 200 times.

This would be an interesting bible study. There are several words that translate to curse in the bible.

I think of God as merciful. I can’t imagine that God would throw someone in front of a bus for their sins. Maybe God allows us to walk in front of a bus based on our blind pride?
