I didn’t watch it that much when it was originally on so I started the other week watching on Netflix.

It’s pretty good even though I would never vote for Pres. Bartlett. The show ofttimes gets bogged down by characters spewing liberal talking points. I love John Spence as the chief of staff and Stockard Channing as FLOTUS, likewise Allison Janney as the press secretary.
 
I didn’t watch West Wing at the time it was being aired - had that liberal-talking-points reputation - but eventually got hooked on the show via Netflix. Ended up enjoying it a lot, particularly the characters you mentioned. In the light of current political developments, and based on TODAY’s narratives and talking points, I’m thinking that the series would seem somewhat less “liberal,” and the characters as models of statesmanship, probity, and, well, character – as opposed to the current crop of political wannabes, toadys, and moral dwarfs.
 
Always loved this show. Didn’t agree with a lot of the politics, but the writing, acting and cinematography are top notch.

After one viewing I thought it was a C+ to B- show. Not BAA-AD but due to be a channel surfing casualty.

After my second viewing (back in the W Bush years) the subtle but persistent liberal preachiness, self-congratulation, and fantasizing came off as an anti-conservative editorial fantasy. Thereafter I called it:

The WEFT Wing.

:eek: Post Obama < (post election of same) that same stuff might look like a decided shift to the RIGHT from the present reality.
